Point Upgrade on a EB Award Ticket?
I know the answer is in here somewhere, but is it possible to upgrade (longhaul) to business from an economy extra award ticket at the gate? Thanks for your help!

The official rule is that you can't do it.

I tried once in ORD and they wouldn't let me, however I know from reading here that others have had success.

It has been my experience ORD seems to be the worst. The segment I'm looking at is CPH to ORD. Dont know if that makes a difference.

I would say only if they are overbooked. And then your status may help you upgrade for free. It doesn't hurt to ask though.

I never done it but asked both ways the last time i flew ARN-ORD and both times they said it would not be a problem.

I guess it never hurts to ask, but i am pretty sure official policy is no upgrade on award tixs, but i guess it depends on the person.

I was on paid ticket in C-class from EWR to ARN, wife and kid on same flight in economy on award ticket. I tried to upgrade them to business with points, both at checkin and at gate, but was deined. Explanation was that award tickets could not be upgraded.

I ended up in economy with my kid, wife in business in my seat
