Smile OT: AC to start CPH-YYZ

AC will (re-)open its CPH-YYZ (Toronto) route starting June 25th, 2010.
Daily flights with a 767-300 with the new(ish) heeringbone style suites in C/J.

Departure CPH: 12.20
Arrival YYZ: 14.50
Departure YYZ: 17.15
Arrival CPH: 06.55

Great news IMHO. A very need alternative to North America - especially so for of course Canada (now you can avoid the rather tiresome US emigration) but also for the US west coast. For *A award travel in C definately got more interesting options now.

Despite SK reductions from CPH, CPH will from next summer have daily flights to ORD, YYZ, ATL, JFK, IAD and EWR (x2) in North America.

What will pricing be like?

Interesting, thanks for the info. Probably a better route from CPH to YQB than through EWR.

Let's hope for some interesting inauguration fares, then. And preferably in a 100% EB earning class.

That is excellent news. From my experience in ZRH last year, AC was generally very competitive on fares to the US.

Wish the flight left Canada a bit later. Don't care for the early overnight flights.

When AC start up in June, 2010, it will be almost 7 years since they pulled out of CPH.

It was actually a little sad to see them stop on CPH, but apparently they were short on equipment and could use the plane on a better yielding route. I don't think load factor was an issue. I actually flew the route back in July/August 2003 and noticed the plane both ways were completely packed. For that same reason, I got upgraded both ways to c-class (very nice - although the 767 at that time were configured with the old-style business seats. I remember it had 1-2-2 conf in business).

Thanks to AC and good luck on the return.

Thanks for the responses.

I guess with Core SAS we can't expect anything too exciting on intercontinental routes anytime soon.

SAS started in 1954 with Copenhagen-Greenland-Winnipeg-Los Angeles with a DC6, but I don't know when it ended.

Well, I've just been exploring the possibilities on the AC booking page. I chose midweek (T) flights, for a two-week stay, end-of-June to middle-of-July. The fares: in W (= 0 EB points), DKK 5775; in B (= 100%), DKK 13 075, in Z (100%), 16 575 Kr; and in J (200%), 40 140 Kr.

Not exactly a bargain.

Connecting through FRA on LH, same dates, you can go for DKK 6492, over in V (100%) and back in W (25%).

Moreover, ITA lists a fare as low as DKK 4522 for those dates; out on OS (W) and back on LX (L), earning 25% both ways.

cheers,

Henry

Way better - there is no need for US immigration.

This is really excellent news for me! AC is excellent both in Y and C, especially in C.

I agree that the departure back from YYZ is too early. It should be after 6pm, but I'll take this.

Regarding the comment about W giving 0 EB points, I don't think that's true. I have asked Finnish EB member service about W class, and they have replied it is missing from the charts, W gives 100% points. This was maybe a month ago. W is a more expensive fare than for instance S, which earns 100%.
