Sea Urchin, Oyster and Crab!
I will be on my own in San Francisco from 14:00 to 23:00 on a Monday. Without looking odd on my own, where can I get some good quality sea urchin, oyster can crab? (be in American way or Japanese way or whatever way :) ) Health-wise, are these food generally safe in the San Francisco area?

I don't eat seafood but
I have heard very good things about
Anchor and Hope
83 Minna Street
San Francisco, CA

I have never heard of problems w/ sea urchin oysters etc in SF - any other folks have info?

I rarely see urchin outside of Japanese restaurants. I don't have any crab recommendations. Local crab is not in season until around Thanksgiving, but crabs from parts north are available.

The Ferry Building is a good place to not look odd on your own.

Swan Oyster Depot on Polk Street has all the great stuff, and often has live sea urchin!

Does anyone have an opinion about Farallon in Union Square? I generally don't eat seafood, but often go there for coffee and dessert in the evening--and of course to enjoy the jellyfish chandeliers, lit seaweed-panel columns, and neat undersea decor:
