Don't miss the self-guided audio tour. It's really good.

If you're in a hurry, you may want to avoid the F, as it's slow. There are other bus lines that will get you close to the same pier -- check the systemwide Muni map. Also, you can use nextmuni.com to get real-time arrival times for each bus/train route, e.g., on your BlackBerry. Very useful.

I won't be in a hurry as I've booked for late morning so plenty time to get there.

Is there a time limit for the F line or could I sit on it all day if I wanted for $2. For $2 I might as well go all the way each way on the line to see some scenery.

As long as you get a transfer when you first board, and you stay within the time limit of the transfer, you can stay on.

I think I am going to get a one day pass and spend some time travelling about on the various MUNI modes of transport. It says on the website that I can purchase these in advance. Does this mean I can buy one at the information booths in the baggage claim areas at the San Francisco International Airport. on the Friday I arrive but have it valid for the Saturday?

Just want to say thanks to all in the thread who answered my many questions I posted here.

This weekend the F line is free, it's being sponsored by someone. I boarded the F at 7th and went up to get the Alcatraz ferry. It was quiet when I got on but when I made my way back the F's going to the Wharf were packed.

Alcatraz was fantastic. It also gave some amazing views of the planes flying about doing fancy acrobatics.

Got off the F at 4th and went to register at the Moscone. Another chap got off who was going to the same place and he was staying at a hotel 30 seconds from mine on 8th so we walked back from 4th to 8th. No problems but amazing how to volume of people walking about dropped after 5th. There are some interesting clubs in this area.

^^^^^^^ to you all for your help.

Glad you enjoyed your visit and no neighborhood problems, I just jealous that you were on Alcatraz during the fleet week air show something I'd like to try the next time I'm lucky enough to be in the city during fleet week.
