BART STRIKE AVERTED - !no strike

Just announced 4 PM PST. At the news conference they said "close of business Sunday. Corrected himself to 12 midnight Sunday, essentially 12 :01 AM Monday. Then corrected to 72 hours. So sometime between 4 PM and midnight on Sunday Aug 16 there will be a strike.

Other options to SFO are:

Sam Trans Route KX , 292, 397
http://www.samtrans.org/schedules.html

SuperShuttle
www.supershuttle.com

Cabs of course

There is a possibility there will be a settlement but don't count on it.

This occurred when one of three union memberships, the ATU, voted not to ratify the contract. The other two memberships did ratify, but they have said that they will honor a strike called by ATU.

There is still the possibility that both sides could return to bargaining before or after the strike deadline. However, if I were planning on using BART after Sunday, I'd have a back-up plan.
The BART release is here.

I was planning on BART to OAK in the morning with a return on Monday from SEA. I deliberately booked late morning flights so I could get down there on BART easily (we have a new express bus from Benicia to BART in Walnut Creek). Will be driving to OAK now instead. At least the parking isn't too bad there at $4.95 a day (Espresso).

Unfortunate - I assume your late morning flights mean more traffic than the very early flights?

I don't own a car, so I'm looking at a nice fat cab fare for Thursday's trip (or a shuttle that will pick me up way too early).

The KX out of San Francisco does NOT allow any luggage, which is a big problem.

Have SamTrans actually been enforcing that rule? IME, it was never enforced in the days before Bart.

If I have to deal with commute traffic running hours late it would. Today I left at 10am for a noon flight and was fine. 880 was a parking lot, but that's normal. I just can't imagine more cars there, as it's pretty much at capacity during the day. Add in 300,000 more people on the freeway and I'd probably have to leave at 8am to be safe. It's 40 miles to OAK for me (wouldn't even think of SFO..might do an overnight hotel there before fighting morning traffic during a strike). I remember the Bay Bridge during the last BART strike and I won't go anywhere near it within a few hours of an expanded commute time.

The other option would be to leave home around 4 in the morning and just camp out in the airport, hoping to get out on an earlier flight. That might be more palatable. My next flight from SFO is Labor Day weekend.

...when the Bay Bridge will be closed.

BART strike averted

Just announced at 7pm in SF!

At about 7 p.m. tonight, Sun. Aug. 16, BART and the ATU reached a tentative agreement calling off tomorrow's planned strike. Most commentators believe that ATU membership will ratify this time. The BART release is here.
