Bad places to park in SF

A police task force is targetting the following areas for automobile smash-and-grab burglaries:

Folsom St
Mission St
Tenth and Ninth St
Lombard St
Bush St
Golden Gate Ave
Franklin St
Post St
Geary Blvd
Laguna St
Market St
Masonic Ave
and areas @ Opera House and Theatre District

Of course, the neighborhood is more critical than the street when determining where to park. For example Franklin and Laguna near Pacific (in Pacific Heights) are much safer than near Golden Gate Ave (housing projects).

That's the upshot--I agree.

As one who lives literally on one of those streets (Masonic--admittedly some of the others are dicier), and who believes that "smash and grab" is about as low on the list of quality of life crimes in my neighborhood (or most anywhere on my street) as anything I can think of, the original post strikes me as nearly useless in terms of handicapping travel/parking risk. That said, I don't mind if the effect is having more of SF's finest in MY neighborhood, for the sort of things that really might call for their services...

Big target these days are GPS units - if they see a charger or mounting bracket, they'll smash the windows to look for the unit. we've had a lot of that at our office out in sj
