Good restaurants for groups?
The idea of regular FT get-togethers in the Bay Area is being discussed at:
www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/003048.html Suggestions for good restaurants for such get-togethers (or groups in general) would be much appreciated. Thanks! Kathy [This message has been edited by KathyWdrf (edited 02-16-2003).] |
I'm not a huge fan of this restaurant, only because it is a chain, but Buca di Beppo can be a fun place for large groups. I've been a number of times to the San Francisco restaurant with groups and it has a lively atmosphere, but I'm not big fan of chain restaurants.

Thanks, raffy.
I'm not a big fan of chain restaurants either, but sometimes they are a good choice, especially when one is looking for the particular combination of characteristics that are needed for a group. Another one that I think might be good for groups (have eaten here once but not with a group yet) is the Daily Grill on Geary between Powell and Mason. It's part of a national chain. Kathy |
We had a FlyerTalk dinner at the Daily Grill on Saturday, March 1, attended by 14 people.
Everyone seemed to like the food and ambience. Conclusion, Daily Grill is good for groups. Kathy |
I used to have to put together dinners for inpromptu groups (usually 10-20 people) and Moose's in North Beach was always pretty accommodating and the people always seemed to enjoy themselves. They also have a semi-private back room area.

Also, even if someone CAN afford it, that doesn't necessarily mean they WANT to pay a lot for a dinner. So about how much per person did these meals run on average? Kathy |
I was in town recently and a group of us went to The Stinking Rose (I believe that's in North Beach on Columbus and Broadway). Food and atmosphere were great.

The 2003 Zagat guide pegs Mooses at $42, which according to the description is the reviewers estimate of the average dinner price per person including 1 drink and tip. (Whoever heard of only 1 drink for Flyertalkers). It is, apparently, more expensive than I remembered,I must have been spending other people's money!

Well, yes, I have a subscription to zagat.com too! But I don't always find their price guidelines realistic.

Figaro Restaurant in North Beach hosted an FT lunch.
They have a nice back patio which is great for groups. |

Is this for the entire Bay Area? I think yes. The Half Moon Bay Brewery is pretty fun.
See in the link the people sitting around the outdoor firepit having cocktails and capuccinos? That could be us. The food is basic brewery/seafood/other fare. My friend had salmon that was batter fried. He said it was suprisingly good. I had a burger and salad. Better than I thought it would be. 'Course you go to this place for the view. (Speaking of views, you can look into the brewery where little, baby brewskis are just starting life! Oh, and BTW, the patio and firepits are MUCH prettier than in the pics. Also, this place is actually in Princeton-By-The-Sea literally overlooking the harbor. (Yes, this is a little self-serving as my live-aboard is right there.) ------------------ "Ummm... just decaf for me, please."
