Half Moon Bay restaurant recommendations?
Hey friends. We have an anniversary dinner coming up in a couple of weeks. We'll be staying in Half Moon Bay.
Any places you'd recommend? Thanks for any ideas. |
No personal experience, however, here is a recent Eater article:Michelin lists Pasta Moon and Navio (without awarding stars or Bib Gourmands).
Duarte’s Tavern, once upon a time, supposedly won the James Beard Award for being an American Classic. |
Navio - RC HMB does a very good job in recognizing birthdays and annversaries if you call them in advance.
30min north is Moonraker in Pacifica. Great coastal views! |

The only place I've eaten in that area - ages ago, but it still appears to have high quality lasting power. |
I had a good dinner long ago at the restaurant in the RC.

We eat in HMB all the time
And we’ve been married forever and are foodies so the food and wine are always more important to us than the atmosphere

Duarte’s Tavern, once upon a time, supposedly won the James Beard Award for being an American Classic. Duartes is a shell of its former self. Rude service and food nowhere as good as it was before it was sold. Pasta moon is ok but overrated. Mezzaluna, on the pier, is some of the best Italian in the area and lovely service. Haven’t been to Moss beach distillery in quite a while, but as I recall, it was quite good and the service was particularly good. We also love Monsoon, the best Nepalese food we have ever had. The HMB Brewpub is ok but very noisy . For Middle Eastern food, a newish place,Ciya on the main street also has a nice back patio. The indoors is nothing to write home about, but the food is great But our absolute go to which might not be great for an anniversary dinner depending on the anniversary and how you celebrate, is Cameron‘s just south of half Moon Bay. It’s officially “Cameron‘s bed and no breakfast.“ It’s a Mock English pub with really great food, amazing service, and a wonderful outdoor patio if the weather is good. Almost always is. we will literally drive down there for a meal from San Francisco. |
Which is Navio

Navio is at the Ritz Carlton if that’s how you roll. |
I love Sushi Main Street (on Mill Street... ). We go there almost every time we're in HMB lately (It's my birthday request) and it's so cosy when the fog is in. I'm vegetarian and can get safe Nabeyaki which is awesome, it comes in a great clay pot. Other than that Pata Moon usually doesn't let down, the Distillery is good for HMB, Duartes is good if you just let it be what it is and it's a country diner that serves great soup.
Cameron's has absolutely terrible food, I mean, it has great British chain pub food (we're in the UK a lot), but it's a great fun experience and casual. We go for drinking there, not for an anniversary dinner. HMB Brepub is one of our favorites, but it gets packed, and they no longer take reservations (we go there 2nd to Sushi Main Stree to be fair, I love the nachos, haha). Sams will have lines down the highway for parking, I hear it's good but I'm a vegetarian and not willing to do that for some fries, and I doubt that's a great anniversary dinner. IIRC, It's Italia had a good brunch. |
We've never had a bad meal at Flying Fish, corner of Hwy 92 + Main St. I'm a fan of their Cioppino (almost as good as the one served at the Ritz) and seafood dishes.

Thank you, folks! We're going with Pasta Moon.
I hope this thread is useful for others visiting Half Moon Bay. BTW, we do like Navio, but as I mentioned above, they are not open on Tuesday. |
Have to fight you on Cameron’s

Woah. I had no idea that my request for Half Moon Bay restaurant recommendations would pull Hebrew proverbs into the discussion.

We'll fight proper and get a pint and be BFF after :) Love you Squeakr! Cheers!
