French Laundry Reservations
Going to visit the Napa area in February and would be quite interested in dining at the French Laundry. Looks like they open up reservations on the 1st of the month at 10am PST for the next 60 days. And those can be gotten either via phone or online.
Anyone have an idea on what the best strategy is? Is it pure luck or if I try to get it right at the opening, will I generally be successful? |
The French Laundry still has its license to operate? OMG.

Maybe Gavin Newsom can get you a reservation. :D

French Laundry - reservations? We just got back from French Laundry this past weekend. We were able to get reservations via the Visa Signature concierge. We tried calling and Open Table and were not able to get through, but surprisingly our Visa Signature concierge was able get us a table for 2! |

The last time I ate there was maybe six years ago, but it was very hard back then to get a reservation. I went through Amex Plat Concierge -- letting them know about my request before the reservation window was open -- and they made it happen on the day I wanted. I vaguely recall later hearing that they had (or maybe still have?) a team of people who work to get those types of reservations, but I don't know how true that is.
There was a sour note in that we showed up to the restaurant only to find that they had no reservation for us in their system. The front desk lady more or less told us to buzz off, probably assuming we were lying about having a reservation. But after I showed the emails from Amex, they did more digging and found that our reservation had been cancelled in their OpenTable system at some point in the past. They claimed to have no clue why that happened, but in any event they found us a table. I also told Amex about it after the fact and they threw me an apology credit, maybe $250 or so. |

My friends stayed at a nearby hotel that could get them a reservation. That’s what I will do when I eventually go there.

Yeah it seems all reservations have moved to Tock, which sells out in about 1-2 minutes. Even a gift card redemption required a Tock reservation.
