Not another what-to-do-for-SFO-layover thread

We have a roughly 4 hour layover in SFO. I don’t think we will venture downtown. I am geographically-challenged and I know I will get lost. Plus with two senior citizens and a 6 year old in tow, I’ll truly be useless. But are there any closer restaurants near the airport that we can have a nice dinner at where we can take our time to eat, nice atmosphere, etc. No preference to cuisine. Somewhere we can Uber too but with no danger of being too far back to SFO that we get stuck in traffic. Thanks in advance!

Note you will still have to walk over to the parking garage to catch an Uber if you get UberX, but UberXL or the other premium car types will pick you up curbside which should save a few minutes and make things easy for you. Sometimes it does take a bit longer than it used to to get a driver these days though.

Anyway, anywhere in Millbrae should fit your needs. There are dozens of good Asian restaurants there within a few miles of the airport, and it's hard to recommend one for you without knowing what you want/like...

Millbrae will be mainly Asian choices, which are very good food but generally not what I would call interesting atmosphere if that is important. More like strip mall atmosphere. With four hours, you can easily go a bit further to Burlingame, which has many good options and is a cuter town more generally, especially around the Burlingame Avenue area.

Millbrae Pancake House is open for breakfast and luncheon. Yummy.

I mean you're not wrong on average but there are definitely places with somewhat nicer atmosphere in Millbrae - Gintei for example.

But the noisy but amazing Chinese places will give you a bit more "I visited SF" vibes if that's what you're after.

If you do go to Burlingame consider Rasa - Michelin-starred Indian and one of my favorites.

I loved that place as well.

I’m sure it’s great - I just prefer Delfina pizzeria because I can get other great Indian in Sf while I cannot go to Delfina pizza in Sf as it’s the size of 6/8 big vehicles parked in a rectangle. Or maybe 9 in a tic tac toe square. The waiting section of Delfina Burlingame is bigger than the table section of Sf Delfina :-) :-)

I’m going to be the odd person out here

With two senior citizens and a child, is “roughly 4 hours” closer to four or closer to 3 1/2? Unless you take the advice of another poster and get an Uber XL or black who can pick you up from the terminal, I think that length of time is really pushing it for a nice sit down dinner. My experience with seniors and kids is that bathroom breaks especially before and after dinner can take longer than you might expect.
It also depends if your next flight is domestic. or international.

Yikes, I didn't notice that. I wouldn't advise leaving SFO (let's call the Grand Hyatt part of SFO) for a sit-down dinner anywhere with only a 4-hour layover. Maybe a run to In-N-Out Burger in Milbrea for those who need their fix, but we're back to normal (i.e., bad) traffic conditions here. That raises a big risk of not making it back in time for the connection.
