Expect delays at SFO April-September from construction

The airport is moving their runway work on 28L to this summer 2021 Due to fewer flights. Expect delays especially in the hours from 4 PM to 8 PM.

Did they do this last year when flights were almost non-existent? If not, why not?

Because you can’t turn major construction on like a tap. These projects are planned a long time in advance and there is only so much rescheduling possible. Plus there may well have been other projects on the go and you can only manage a certain number at any one time if you still want to operate an airport.

if you read the link in post one you’ll see that these works were originally scheduled for 2022 but they have been able to bring them forward to this year where flight schedules are 50% lower than normal. It also states that some works were also done the back end of the year.

Good article. Is it the airlines or passengers responsible to adjust for this? Can airlines just make modest schedule changes to adjust to these repairs, so that pax can then decide if they’ll keep or adjust their reservations? Or would airlines be forced to issue a refund if they make a change for these airport repairs?
