As BART slashes hours, SFO running ’emergency bus service’ to and from East Bay
In place of train service from SFO to the East Bay, the airport is providing shuttles that will depart the airport from Courtyard G at the International Terminal at 10:15 p.m., 11:15 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. The airport is also providing late-night bus service from the North Concord/Martinez BART station that departs at 12:20 a.m. and stops at four other stations before arriving at the airport at 1:45 a.m. Lmited stops spelled out in the article. |

BART has the passengers numbers yet keeps postponing the inevitable. They had less than 13,000 passengers on Sunday. Maybe hourly service is the best they can do when you balance out operational costs versus passenger volume and don't want to close down for the day. I see one proposal is 42-48 min service which gets pretty close.
Some financials from their web site: The estimated loss revenue impact for March-to-date (through 3/25) is -$17,495,000, and a loss of 4.172M trips. Projections for the full month of March is a loss of $24,663,000 with a loss of 5.878M trips. BART budget staff is waiting to find out how much money BART will receive from the federal stimulus package to help support our operating budget and running service. There will be approximately $1.3B provided to the MTC to divide up among Bay Area transit operators. |

Some financials from their web site: If they get 1/3 of the bailout, that could be $433 million. At a monthly loss of $24 million that would cover them for a while. |

Starting Wednesday April 8, trains will run every 30 minutes Monday-Friday. BART now closes at 9pm. Saturday and Sunday 8am-9pm.. |
