SFO Domestic to International Connection. Exit gate area?

Puzzling (for me) question.

I'm flying out of LAX to SFO via Alaska Airlines to catch an Iceland Air flight. They are separate reservations. Do I need to exit the domestic gate area and go the check-in counters for Iceland Air or can I head directly to the Iceland Air gates and check in there? I plan to have only carry-on baggage.

Thanks in advance.

Alaska operates in both Terminal 2 and International Terminal-A, but I believe their LAX flights are usually from T2. Iceland is in International-A. Assuming you arrive into T2, you will need to exit security and either walk to International-A (via T3) or take the Airtrain red line two stops. You could get your boarding pass at Iceland check-in, or perhaps they have online boarding passes. Then enter security at the A gates side of International (not G side).

Note that you cannot walk from T1 to International-A due to construction. Go through T3 if you walk it.
