August 22 Event?
 
Is there any big event or convention the week of August 21 I'm not aware of?
Looking at flights PDX-OAK/SFO on Tuesday August 22; they've never not been $250-$300+, which is ~$200 more than every other summer week. Southwest is actually showing sold out for a bunch of flights August 21/22. Any ideas?

It's bizarre. Most other days the first VX flight is $69, but $265 on the 22nd. Just going to keep watching it I guess.

Solar Eclipse on the 21st. I booked my PDX/SFO home night of the 21st last fall.

Oh yeah. Hard to believe the quantity of people traveling for that would have such a significant effect on airfares on one specific route though.

Grabbed the $69 VX fare on the 21st. Going to keep watching the Tuesday prices but I'll do an extra day in CA to save $200.

Out of curiosity, I looked on kayak.com for DEN-SFO fares on Aug. 22. Pretty much the same as on Aug. 23. I would think that if the solar eclipse is driving the PDX fare spike, it would also hit the DEN flights.

The solar eclipse will be viewable from the Portland area on Aug 21. The Aug 22 fare spike is likely people returning home to SFO afterwards.
