San Mateo-Hayward Bridge - Toll Prices in Cash

Hi All,

Going to be heading into Foster City and most likely use San Mateo-Hayward Bridge in a rental car.

I see online the bridge to be a toll bridge, but the prices are a bit difficult to intepret. Can anyone by experience advise how the toll works (payable both directions), the price of the toll during day and night hours and if I can pay via cash. I won't have any sort of automated payment set up as this is a one day trip only.

Any information here will be much appreciated. :)

You only pay the toll westbound.

I pay less if we have 2+ persons in the car?

Sounds a good deal. Thanks for this, will ensure I have the cash ready upon arrival!

In order to get the lower rate on this bridge for 2+ persons in the car ("Carpool rate") you must have a FasTrak transponder on your vehicle AND use the designated carpool lane(s), AND travel at designated carpool days/times. (See https://www.bayareafastrak.org/en/ho...shtml#sanmateo ) Cash toll will be $5, payable only Westbound, as cblaisd posted.

Got it! Thanks a lot for the info.

Be careful about using the FasTrak transponder installed in the rental car. The rental agency's fee for using it might be more than what you would save by using the carpool lane.

My advice is to cover it in the box it's installed in and just pay cash. Beware that ALL of the toll booth lanes have FasTrak readers installed, not just the FasTrak/carpool-only lanes, so you'll still need to cover it up if you decide to pay cash.

Noted! Thanks for this, wouldn't had known otherwise.
