Limit access to only Amex Platinum to avoid any crowding from all those "pesky" Priority Pass holders from Citi and Chase. Just ask any one trying to use the AS lounge in SEA and it's pretty much closed for Priority Pass use due to crowding.

Only two other people in there when I stopped by an hour ago. I was hoping for some breakfast burritos or similar but the offerings were pretty basic (yogurt, fruit, danishes, cookies). Got a nice cappuccino. Looking forward to trying the evening offerings on Thursday.

I think that is the point and I wonder if Amex paid extra to have exclusivity.

I think OAK has a very different passenger population than SEA, which I think is more like SFO. OAK passengers tend to be less affluent and thus less likely to have cards like Amex Plat and Chase Sapphire. I doubt this lounge will have overcrowding problems with the new Amex deal.

Yes, I suspect that Escape put them out for competitive bid and Amex $$$ > Priority Pass $$. Priority Pass has a massive footprint and thus less need to spend for individual access compared to Amex.
I am not sure I buy any of those generalizations. I know a guy who always visits the Amex lounge @sfo and reports that it is packed (obviously without Chase CSR or other PP members). While OAK gets its share of LCC passengers as you can see when visiting the WN terminal, you don't have Frontier & Spirit soiling the place If Escape's parent was really clever they would negotiate another lease in the WN terminal and then offer PP access for both - they'd rake in $$ from PP as there are no other options.

Still, I don't think the OAK passengers will overcrowd the Escape Lounge.
