Best Bread and Butter

Going for the basics here. I love fresh bread, and know that a number of restaurants now make their own butter to go along with it. I am assuming there must be some int eh bay area.

So, in DT San Francisco, or on the peninsula, who serves the best bread and butter, particularly the best butter.

The popovers served at Wayfare Tavern are really good. The butter served with them didn't leave a particular memory, however.

I'd try the Cowgirl Creamery's cafe in the Ferry Building - the bread is from Acme, and I'd guess that their butter is organic and regionally-sourced.

Best used bread (no I'm not joking, unfortunately): Plouf on Belden Lane.

Here's a good list for top bread bakeries....

I'm not aware of any artisanal butters available other than at local farmers markets.
