Changes to BART Airport Parking

Just got the following email from BART :

PRELIMINARY NOTICE OF IMPENDING CHANGES

Single Day Reserved and APLT (Airport)/Long-Term Patrons

You are receiving this email because you have an active BART parking reservation account with the BART parking vendor.

This email notification is to inform you that BART recently re-bid the contract for providing the parking permit on-line reservation system to BART patrons and as a result of that process has awarded the management of the on-line parking reservation system to Select-a-Spot effective July 1st, 2012. During the changeover, the online reservation system will not be available for use after 5PM Friday June 29th, Saturday June 30th or Sunday July 1st. However all reservations covering this period and that were made prior to the close of business on June 29th will still be honored and can be utilized without any disruption.

The transition from the current parking vendor to the new parking vendor will result in the need for you to re-register your credit card information and reset your password in order to protect the privacy of your consumer financial information. On July 2nd, 2012 you will receive an email from the new vendor asking you to log into your account with a temporary password and input your credit card data, change your password, acknowledge the terms of service outlined within the new licensing agreement, update your vehicle information and other information within your account profile. It is important that you update your account profile by July 7th.

Notwithstanding the change in vendors, any reservations you should make prior to June 29th will remain valid and the permit information will be transferred to the new vendor Select-a-Spot who will then begin billing you for future parking reservations beginning July 2nd, 2012.

Additional Changes

Beginning with the new contract, BART is making some changes to the “Rules & Regulations” pertaining to the purchase of permits. We are also taking this opportunity to update the terminology of the permit licensing agreement associated with the various permits sold at BART Stations. A copy of this licensing agreement can be viewed utilizing this link (licensing agreement). Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with these changes.

This information circular is intended to inform BART patrons of eminent and pending changes and further contact and establishment of your account information with the new vendor will be forthcoming as we guide you through this transition.

Thank you,

BART Parking Division
The "licensing agreement" link in the email is broken, but I suspect it's supposed to point here

Thanks for the heads up. The last vendor change resulted unexpectedly in what should have been a 2 minute transaction taking awhile to get re-signed up.

And the follow-up message. Looks like my vehicle details and credit card details didn't come across at all so need to be setup. (Which is good for CC, but a little annoying for vehicle details).

I got the email too. I am hoping the temp-password survives until I next need BART parking, so I don't want to bother with it just now! Given all the price and tax hikes at the various SFO lots, BART has now become my preferred parking locale.

Based on advice on a previous thread here, I've purchased multiple permits whenever my stay spanned a weekend or a holiday. In fact, I just purchased two permits since my most recent stay spanned the 4th of July. It was fine although it was purchased from the previous vendor. In the new terms and conditions, under "Weekend and Holiday Exception:", it states:

APLT (Airport / Long Term)
Consecutive Purchasing Prohibited

So, is anyone willing to risk purchasing multiple permits for a parking stay and posting here on their results? Or, should it be assumed that this behavior will now be cited? I don't think this language was in the previous terms and conditions.

It takes 5 minutes, by the time you input everything. Deal with it now, before you lose the temp password. I know you can!

Yeah, but I'd have to go out and look at my car license yet again. Maybe tomorrow.... :):):)

It actually states a lot more than that...

APLT (Airport / Long Term)
Consecutive Purchasing Prohibited

APLT (Airport / Long Term) permits are the sole property of BART and may be rescinded at anytime. APLT (Airport / Long Term) permits are valid for up to a maximum of 30 days and cannot be purchased consecutively without the vehicle having left the premises for at least 72 hours.
Which makes it pretty clear you can't do what you've suggested.

They also appear to have removed the ability to extent permits (which was don't by purchasing a new one starting the day after your previous one expired, with no need to display the new permit). That pretty much kills it for me as I've had to use this a few times due to extended stays/delayed flights. I've emailed them and asked them to clarify and I'll report back on with the response.

Good call - I hope there's a positive reply, because it would make the risk of a delay potentially very expensive.

The new "no consecutive permits" rule is a big negative, I've certainly done that before.

Also I hope it turns out they do understand that sometimes we have no choice but to extend a permit if a flight is delayed/cancelled.

Looks like they are changing again, although it's not clear if the actual website/process will change, or just the company behind it.

(This email actually came our a few weeks ago, but hit my spam folder)
