GG Bridge Access Construction
Will be in San Francisco this weekend and planning to head north on Saturday morning (returning mid-afternoon). Should I just avoid the Golden Gate Bridge entirely or are there creative ways someone can suggest to avoid traffic associated with the upcoming construction on the way out of town?

advice is to not travel north this weekend, but the alternates are listed above. |
Saturday mid-afternoon inbound to SF is the worst traffic of the entire week.
There will be no creativity. Just hopefully (for your sake) a lot of people that decide not to travel altogether. Inbound on I-80 over the Bay Bridge gets congested typically by 11AM and can last through the evening. However, if you take 80 outbound in the morning, you should be fine in that direction. (You don't say how far north you are going, and whether you'd be going over the Richmond Bridge back to 101 (to Marin or western parts of Sonoma), or taking 80 up to the Carquinez Bridge (i.e., to Napa Valley, or eastern parts of Sonoma.) |
Well plan is to go to Point Reyes, but it's not going anywhere and I've been many times before so should probably pass. Maybe Angel Island instead?

or go south - Half Moon Bay?
Not nature-like as Point Reyes but lovely.

There are a lot of beaches along highway 1 south between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz.
