As part of a class action settlement, $175 million worth of free cosmetics products will be distributed to members of the class (see below to determine whether you are a member of the class) for a maximum of seven days, while supplies last, on a first come, first served basis, beginning on January 20, 2009. No rainchecks will be issued. The products will be distributed at stores owned by the Retailer Defendants (see list immediately below).

Thanks for the info. I went to the website and read the settlement notice; however, there was no other infor or link about HOW to get the settlement.

one is being instructed to present one's self at the store to claim the product.

Or so it seems to suggest on tghe website:


"...these products are only available while supplies last, and no rainchecks will be issued. If your store has run out of settlement products from the Manufacturer Defendant(s) from which you have previously purchased Department Store Cosmetics during the class period, then you may claim a product (again, while supplies last) from another Manufacturer Defendant..."

"Boston Store, Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue, among other chains, will be giving away free cosmetics, skin care and perfumes on Jan. 20, as part of a five-year-old settlement involving price fixing on beauty products."

Any ideas which locations of these stores will offer this? I can not find this info in the article.

I showed a co-worker and she called Bergdorf Goodman and Macy's in NYC. They are both participating.

Dillards and Macy's in The Woodlands, TX are also participating.

I would call your local department store and just ask.

Ya right, we all know you just wanted to stock up on eye liner. J/K. My co-worker went by Macy's and said the line was so long they cut people off because they were about to close (on Tuesday). She went to Bergdorf and Sacks yesterday and got stuff but I didn't ask what. If I remember Ill ask her tomorrow.

These are the only products that will be distributed, while supplies last, as part of the settlement product distribution. Not all products are available in all stores; rather, stores will be distributing products from the participating brands that the particular store ordinarily sells.

Did anyone get any of the freebies? I missed going on Jan 20 because I was of course glued to the TV for the inauguration. Is this giveaway only for one day?

I went yesterday around 2:30PM - all was gone supposedly by about 2:00PM on 1/20 - mind you this was just one store.

I went on 1/20 and got an Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. As mentioned in the press release, it is while supplies last. It is a full size bottle and retails for $85.00.

My daughter and I each got the Estee lauder night repair today ay Macy's. We have 2 MAcy's and the downtown location was out early today but the store a mile away had plenty and no lines. After all the years of buying Estee Lauder I feel great to get a free item.
