Has anyone challenged giftcertificates.com yet for the second (redemption) charge and what has been the result? I haven't yet written to them and I'm curious there's a more effective approach.

I got fed up with being on hold for 20+ minutes at a time and never getting someone. I had Citi reverse the charges.

Oddly enough, the 10% off went through fine on my redemptions of the Supercertificate (double-dip). Only the initial purchase of the Supercertificate was problematic. My wild guess is that there is a problem when using a %-off code and a shopping portal at the same time. The initial (correct) order confirmation reads:

Coupon Code: CJ_AFFILIATE
Coupon Code: SUPER1507,

and the second (erroneous) order confirmation only lists:

Promotion code: CJ_AFFILIATE.

I called GC.com twice, and was on hold for >30 minutes, and then decided to dispute the charge with Citi/Amex. Shouldn't be too difficult with the right documentation.

I did not use a shopping portal this time.

I had no trouble with the 15% discount on the supercertificate, nor with getting the 10% off when I redeemed the supercertificate. All charges seem to be appropriate and match my receipt.

My problem was that the certificates were out of stock and I was not notified until I spent 2 hours on hold.

I received the shipping notification on Thursday, and they should have been delivered today.

Problem is, because of the lack of disclosure about the certificates being out of stock, I sent them to my home. I was home for a week.

Well, now I'm at work, and they require a signature.

At least I'm getting them, and it has been fairly trouble free.

Hope you guys get it all straightened out.

I finally got ahold of the security department (no hold time if you can get through without a busy signal). He told me my order fell through the cracks. Apparently they didn't intend the 10% off to work on redemptions, but since there was a programming bug on their end they were honoring it. Somehow mine was just missed and the transaction was cancelled. New order should be here this week.

I don't really believe what they told you, because it means my order "fell through the cracks" too. I think they all fell through.

I placed a redemption order using 10% off 11 days ago, and just sent them an email this morning.

Did finally get though after 65 minute hold time. CSR stated that she would escalate to supervisor for $10 credit on both orders. Six days later no credit showing in my online cc summary. Also, never received any reply to email sent on date this thread started. It's looking like I will probably need to start a dispute with cc co.

I didn't say I believed them. Just relaying what they said.

We bought 2 supercerts for $2,000 each and received the 10% off, but not until calling and having them adjust the credit card billing. Then we used the two supercerts with another 10% off coupon to buy AA gift cards. I don't know how often I had to call them (six? seven times?), stay on hold interminably, talk to Keesha and Co., have problems "escalated," etc. etc.

Today we received our last AA gift cards via FedEx. We received all the discounts and paid altogether only $20 in shipping total--they comped and adjusted because I kept insisting, in a nice way. Overall, we spent $3,620 on $4,250 worth of AA gift cards, so the total savings wasn't exactly 20%--gives me a headache to try to figure it all out. I spent the time being on hold doing other stuff on the computer, so I don't see it as totally wasted time--but I doubt I'll ever go back to giftcertificates.com. Totally over their heads, totally unorganized, totally inept computer system. How can they stay in business?

Now we're waiting for all those AA miles to post through eShopping....

This is consistent with my experience - I had redeemed a supercert for a merhcant GC using the 10% off. First receipt showed the discount but also included a spurious extra $6.30. Second receipt did not show the discount. I was going to dispute with the once I had time. I logged on last night to redeem more off that supercert and found that my balance on it reflected the the earlier redemption including the discount - WOW automatically and saving me at least 90 mins on hold and much toing and froing.

I instantly emptied out the supercert and am now glad to be done with GC.com. They're going to have to have a really good promo to tempt me back again

20 percent of 4250 is a savings of $850 or a total of 3400
Are you sure you spent $3620 and not $3420?

skywalkerLAX Jan 9, 2008 2:11 pm

After a few days and my e-supercertificates were still missing I called and cancelled the whole thing after 25 minutes on hold

Now the only miles I will get out of this promotion are for 400$ giftcards and an iPod from CircuitCity for 150$. Better than nothing and I didnt want to risk tons of effort and a possible loss.

Will not try it again unless there is a over-the-top promotion that "could" save alot !

easygoing77 Jan 10, 2008 1:18 pm

I placed an order for e-supercertificate on 12/26 for 1000 dollars using SUPER1507 coupon. But I was overcharged on my credit card for 1004.95.
I called gift ceritificates on January 3 rd and the CSR said he is opening investigation and today I saw credit of 150 dollars on my credit card. Happy ending in the end. So I got $1100+ gift cards for 854.95 dollars. Good deal.

Will do busines with giftcertificates.com if they come up with % off coupons in future. Well worth the little trouble.

lavalyn Jan 11, 2008 7:13 pm

I also got a happy ending, seeing a $150 credit as well. Still a bother overall, but at least they're honouring the coupon code that the website is accepting.

magiciansampras Jan 13, 2008 5:23 pm

This place just kind of sucks in general. Ordered some gift certificates last Tuesday and paid for FedEx overnight shipping. As of Sunday night I haven't even received an email they they've shipped yet.

Mary2e Jan 13, 2008 7:17 pm

Chances are they don't have them in stock. They're fully aware their website does not tell people the certificates are out of stock. People are paying for overnight shipping to get them fast, and they have no way of knowing these yo-yos don't have them.

I think they collect orders and buy certificates on a weekly basis and ship them at that time.

I ordered on Dec 26 and my certificates shipped 9 days later - which is about a week if you take out the holiday.

I doubt I will use them again unless I can get in on a deal such as this one. I didn't try hard, and managed to get about 21% off the face of the certificate.

lavalyn Jan 13, 2008 7:25 pm

Terrible service, but $200 for the trouble

I think that's what it comes down to. It's a hassle to order, get, and use these gift cards, but leaving 20% on the table is an even bigger loss. Especially when it's for merchants that you would normally pay full price for anyway.

depends on how you value your time - especially given the on-hold wait times reported have been averaging 60-90 minutes per call.

magiciansampras Jan 15, 2008 2:23 pm

On the phone with these bozos now waiting for a supervisor. Mary was absolutely right; the gift cards are out of stock. Nice that I am the one that has to call to find that out. Amazing. :td:

That time of year again, coupons

Any current coupons or promotions for GC.com ?

Alcibiades Jan 20, 2009 6:08 pm

No new promo code for a year !

Guess they were pissed about this situation
