I started a thread in the Marriott forum to ask the MarriottConcierge to check into whether it's legit or not. If not, they'll presumably get it shut down. If it is, then more Marriott FTers will learn about it, as not everyone comes to the S.P.A.M. forum. Cheers.

Ok, after us angsting & not hearing back from Marriott Concierge yet, I called a few Marriott #s to find out if it was legit & got transferred around. The Marriott Rewards dept hadn't heard of it, and went to the site to take a look & said they still weren't familiar w/ it. So they're passing the info along to Marriott audit/legal to f/up on.
What the MR guy told me was that, in addition to the password/log-in info when we access our account online, we can set up a password for when we call in - it's a 4-digit password. So I had that added to my account, as well as a reminder question (I used dog's name for the question & gave my sister's dog's name, which is what I do whenever that comes up on accounts - easier for me to remember LOL). So if someone is concerned about access to their account, set it up for the password when calling in. Cheers. |
Thanks for the investigative work Sharon.

OPer here....just wanted to say I've yet to receive my points as well. Logic would dictate either I would get them before everyone else here or we would all get them at the same time.

Looked like an illegitimate survey. No straightforward link to Marriott as most of their surveys have had in the past.

Did you just Google "Marriott survey" and this is one of the things that turned up? Normally, I would expect a survey like this to be entered either from the Marriott site, or from some reputable survey site. If it was found all by itself, just floating free, disconnected from one of those "normal" entry portals, I wouldn't expect to get any points from it. On the other hand, I'm not that worried about someone, knowing ONLY my MR number and no other identifying information, somehow dipping into my account and stealing my billions and billions of MR points either. (Full disclosure: having recently done a redemption, I have fewer than 300 MR points anyhow. ;) ) One other thing (again, apologies if already discussed): Those who are investigating this might also consider contacting the owner of Linescale, Larry Weiss. Contact info here: http://www.linescale.com/web/callme.htm I'm sure he could shed some light on this mystery! ;) |
glad i read this thread before doing the survey!

I had posted on the Marriott forum asking MarriottConcierge (who reps Marriott on the forum) to check into it. Here's his reply:
"I apologize for the delay in responding. It has been a very busy week. We recently sent out a promotional email asking members for their opinion on a New York City hotel using the Weiss Linescale. However upon completion of the survey, you were entered into a $100 drawing - no bonus points were awarded. Additionally this survey is no longer open for members to complete. I am checking on the validity of the survey in question. I will post again when I have additional information. If you are concerned about the security of your account, you can do as Sharon suggested and add a 4-digit password to your account." Cheers. |

Just a question (and my apologies if you've already answered this either on this thread or elsewhere): Where and how, exactly, did you find this survey?

Nobody on FW seems to have gotten any points either.... ;) |

But interestingly enough, the discussion on FatWallet mirrors the one here: first a lot of people saying "Thanks, OP," then people saying "Where are my 500 points?" then people getting suspicious of whether it's legit.... :D

Since my points go to AAdvantage, the MR balance is always zero ... so no harm, no foul AFAIK.
