extra 500 miles from mypoints

just got an email overnight.

Tried the link ... but the page it sends me to says nothing about the extra 500 miles (? - do you mean "points"?).

It's a 500 mile bonus from UA for joining MyPoints. You didn't see anything if you were logged in to MyPoints already.

IIRC, MyPoints is notorious for shutting down duplicate accounts - even when it's different people at the same address - due to their policy prohibiting a person from having multiple accounts. Unless you wish to put your main MyPoints account at risk, I wouldn't recommend doing this if you already have one.

I don't really care about putting my main account at risk, since I have pretty well retired it: too much time to get too little. I wouldn't mind getting the UA miles, though. So, should I think it's worth it, using a different e-mail than my other MyPoints? Should the e-mail match the one on file with UA? Previously I had MyPoints go to a "likely-spam" addy, while UA goes to my work. Can I join MyPoints and decline their clickthru mails from the beginning, just getting a welcome at my work addy? Or, I have a new ISP and was thinking of using their mail for reputable commercial mail; maybe put both programs on that? I have an uncommon name and recently moved to a new ZIP code in the same city; I don't think MyPoints knows about it. I see that on the first signup page, my e-mail and ZIP would be different from what they have; do they ask for more details on later pages?

I had several accounts for a few years, no problems. I only have 1 now, maintaining the others was too much trouble.

log out first. in any case my main mypoints account isnt linked at all the anything and i haven't purchased anything through them either. after like however long since the mypoints program started i have abt over 7.7k in points just for clickthroughs at 5pts each. somewhere there. so much for running a risk.
