Another gift card idea...
 

Hey All,

I was at Nordstrom the other day, and someone was telling me how they have a super-flexible return policy. There is even this urban legend about some guy returning tires at Nordstrom...

Anyways, this got me thinking. What are their gift card policies. Well low and behold, there is a way to cash it (or so it seems).

See the bullet that reads "When returning items or canceling online orders made with a gift card, a refund check will be issued".

OK, this borders on unethical, but you could theoretically go to your local grocery store, get a $1000 Nordstrom gift card on you point-earning credit card, make an online purchase using the gift card and cancel the order five minutes later. Then simply wait for the check to come in...

I did not try this, nor am I sanctioning it, but if someone does try it and succeeds, I would be interested in hearing the results. Nordstrom would probably change its policy soon after realizing the large number of online big-ticket item cancellations anyways...

Oh yeah, does the gift card purchase at the grocery store count towards the Amex double-points offer? ;)

FYI Safeway in the DC area sells the gift cards.

As for Nordstrom's return policy, I worked there in college and they will fire a employee who harasses a customer about a return. They are the most liberal company when it comes to returns. We used to make lunch money for the week by purchasing a pair of Bruno Magli shoes for about 200 with our discount, and then return them to another location for 295. We had a roomate who paid off his car by purchasing things from the Nordstrom Rack and saying his Grand mother purchased them in KS and get a refund for the full price with the KS 10% tax. Not much on a pair of jeans, but on a Hart Schaffner suit he was making like 500 dollars. The associates are usually not going to question, because if the customer does not have a receipt the comission does not come back from anyone, so only Nordstrom is hurt. If they did question and the customer wanted to complain it was not unheard of for that associate to no longer getscheduled hours so in a way fired.

It could be worth it if it will get you that free ticket
