E-Rewards Extension!!!

Both my wife and I just received this email from E-Rewards indicating that our "currency" won't expire this month:

"A special thank-you for your participation.

To thank you for your ongoing participation in e-Rewards surveys and e-Offers, we will waive our usual currency expiration rules for you. As a result, the e-Rewards currency that you earned in 2003 and 2004 has been rolled over for an additional membership year and will remain available to you for Reward redemptions through June 30, 2005.

If you continue as an active e-Rewards participant over the next 12 months, your status as a member of the Preferred Research Panel may be extended for another year and the expiration date for e-Rewards currency you have earned will be extended for an additional membership year. We'll review your program participation and profile during June 2005 and let you know if you re-qualify for Preferred Research Panel membership. Should you not re-qualify, you will have at least 30 days to use any e-Rewards currency that was rolled over from previous years."

So, no need to rush into a purchase. (We can wait for the 90 day limit on HH to expire!) ^

I want an extension...

How much e-rewards money do you have in your account? How many offers do you particiapte in a week? Did you ask for an extension??

lilprincess Jun 29, 2004 10:54 am

I received one as well. Mine was worded a little different in the beginning.

Congratulations! You have re-qualified as a member of our Preferred Research Panel for 2004. This panel is composed of e-RewardsŪ members whose stated interests are especially important to our market research clients.

My current balance is $224.00, and I've had two redemptions this year (Hilton).

I suggest that you update your profile. Decision makers appear to be the surveys that pay the most.

I also got the message. I don't remember getting one before, but the opening wording is:

"Congratulations! You have re-qualified as a member of our Preferred Research Panel for 2004. This panel is composed of e-RewardsŪ members whose stated interests are especially important to our market research clients."

I have $60.00 in e-rewards in my account. I redeem for the HHonors points every 90 days. I also get the blockbuster certificates once in a while.

My profile has me for the decision maker for just about everything. In addition...I do make a lot of IT decisions for my business... and therefore get all those surveys too.

Thats good! But unless they increase the choices and remove the limit of one redemption per merchant per year your choices are limited anyway. I would have been more happy if they had added more merchants and removed stupid rewards like '1 free day with hertz with 5 day rental' ( u get these anyway in any travel magazine )

I got the "preferred research" letter too! Great Benefit just for answering a few e-mails a month. They did add a new reward - I'm assuming it is available to all. Probably everyone will get this extension as well.

Got a different version: "Update your profile"

I received an e-mail titled, "Update your profile and protect your expiring currency."

I followed the link in the e-mail and updated my profile. My account statement now reflects that NONE of my currency expires on August 1, 2004 (my membership year ends June 30). :)

Mary2e Jun 29, 2004 3:04 pm

I'm anxiously awaiting an email. My membership year also ends on June 30 and as of today, I'm up to $56, 75% of which will expire on Aug 1 and I can't redeem for HH until mid August.

I've been getting lots of opportunitys to earn, now, if I could only keep them.

My Usage

My account was down to $10, with "purchases" of Hilton (quarterly) and one Hertz cert during the last year. My wife's account was almost $50 with "purchases" of Hilton (again, quarterly) and one Blockbuster redemption. We both answer about three surveys per week. Both of us are executives in IT related functions. (No, we didn't ask for an extension.)

It seems to me that this is the "other shoe" that follows the original expiration change. E-rewards now has an "elite" program: it's called "not taking your currency away every year".

The magmall option (50% off) might be a decent alternative. That was the only one (other than HHonors, which I just redeemed in early June) that looked at all appealing as a way to "rescue" most of the $25 in erewards currency I have now.

You could always give the magazine subscriptions as gifts, or use them to renew your existing subs. (Warning: once redeemed, the magmall cert expires in 3 months, I believe. So you have to buy the subscriptions soon.)

I, too, think they need to offer a LOT more redemption opportunites, and put fewer restrictions on how often you redeem them!!!

Hilton is every 90 days, so you can do that 5 times a year (if you redeem your first one between Jan 1 and 6th, and then every 90 days after, you can get in five redemptions by 12/31). Not sure about any others.

ljp99 Jun 29, 2004 7:12 pm

I also got the extension email.
And I was worried earlier today that the $18 I have in rewards would have expired tomorrow.

I only redeemed once this year for HH, so obviously I wasnt as active as some others on this board, but active enough to get an extension.

matagal Jun 29, 2004 7:48 pm

I got an extension also. Have about $26 and have only made one redemption in a year, Blockbuster. I was just assuming that everyone would get this extension. However, I agree that what they really need is better sponsorship offers! Still, I enjoy my free video rentals (since I would do this anyway), for a small investment of time.

Saved By The Bell

Me too. :) $38.00, Saved at the last mminute. Sweet.

The Lurker Jun 29, 2004 8:05 pm

I got the email today, so I guess I get to keep the $110 I was about to burn. A nice perk, it would be even nicer if within the next year they get some even better redemption offers.

ssullivan Jun 29, 2004 11:09 pm

Got it as well today. I was down to about $8 in my account because I redeemed $50 for Hilton last week (my expiration is June 30). So it's nice to roll over the full balance to the next membership year. I don't find e-Rewards to be an overly valuable program for me (get much, much more out of My Points, especially since I order about $200-400 in merchandise from Office Depot every month for my employer and get the points ;)) but it is nice to get a few extra thousand HHonors points every year for free and almost no time and effort.

Mary2e Jun 30, 2004 7:08 am

I got an email, but it's not for an extension.

We are delighted to have you as an e-RewardsŪ member, and we want to help you get the most from our program at every opportunity.

As you may know, our program rules specify that any e-Rewards currency earned in your membership year must be redeemed by July 31, 2004 at Midnight (CST). Accordingly, 75% of the unused e-Rewards currency that you earned prior to June 30, 2004 will soon be subject to expiration from your account.

PLEASE CLAIM A REWARD BY JULY 31.

You have until July 31, 2004 at Midnight (CST) to claim a Reward with your expiring currency. After that date, the expiring currency will no longer be available to you.
I also got another survey today. I'm not answering any since the points will be lost anyway.

Agreed. The redemption opportunities are very limited. I only redeem for HH points. I'll look at the Magmall option, however, most of these online magazine brokers require a credit card and put you on the automatic renewal program. I've stopped paying for all subscriptions by credit card because this seems to be the new hook they're using.

I may redeem for Blockbuster and just give it away to a friend.

AeroDD Jun 30, 2004 9:46 am

Like Mary, I too was denied an extension and will expire on 31 July. :td:

I wonder what I've done to have fallen out of favor with e-rewards. Maybe it was because I kept answering all those surveys they sent me. ;)

ejward2000 Jun 30, 2004 11:31 am

Received extension e-mail today. One redemption last year for Blockbuster and currently $41 in account.

ssullivan Jun 30, 2004 2:16 pm

Since yesterday's extension e-mail I've received four offers already today. Wonder if being on this "preferred" survey thing does mean you get more earning opportunities?

kcheong15 Jun 30, 2004 2:18 pm

I got the same email yesterday and I have $153.50 in my account

blackjack-21 Jul 1, 2004 12:35 am

Finally Got the Email

As several others posted, I finally got the email allowing me to extend my erewards into 2005. Plus the $5.00 bonus for updating my profile, allowed me to redeem for the 1000 HHonors points. This was my first redemption, as they just don't send me as many emails as most of us here seem to receive, so I'd just about given up on erewards. But at least (after almost two years) I finally got something to keep me in their program, and a redemption, as small as it was.

I sent an email to customer service yesterday asking for the reason why some people were extended and I was not as well as asking for the extension.

I've been a member for a very long time, have always answered their surveys, and don't quite understand how I wasn't granted the extension when other, newer, members have.

When is your expiration date though? I've been a member for a long time and have always answered their surveys. I didn't receive the email with the extension offer. But my expiration date was earlier this year, so I assume that's why.

My expiration was June 30. I'm set to lose $43 in rewards as of 7/31 if they don't give me an extension.

Mary2e Jul 1, 2004 1:01 pm

I sent a note this morning asking for either an extension or the ability to redeem for Hilton 2 weeks early.

There's the reply.

Good Morning

Thank you for contacting e-Rewards. We can certainly understand your frustration and confusion. The expiration policy is based on several factors. We try to give our members ample opportunity to redeem and the expiration policy is in place to encourage redemptions. As our member list continues to grow it is necessary to put "expiration policy conditions" in place for each group of members. In reviewing your account I see that you currently have enough for a $50.00 redemption. You have the opportunity to redeem these credits for Blockbuster, Hertz, eBags, Forzeri, International Wine Cellars, Snowbird or IBM. Many of our members have enjoyed the redemptions from these sponsors and we would hope that you would take these opportunity to do so as well. It's unfortunate that we are unable to extend the expiration policy for you or offer you a Hilton Redemption but rest assured that you will have plenty of opportunities in the future to redeem for Hilton if you choose to do so. Please take this time to look over our other redemption opportunities.

We appreciate your interest in e-Rewards. Please do not hesitate to contact us, if you have any additional questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Cathi Gumpert
No answer as to why some people were extended and others not.

KathyWdrf Jul 2, 2004 11:20 pm

The only downside of this extension business for me is that, had I known or suspected this was coming, I would have answered a couple of lucrative (but more time-consuming) surveys that came in late June: one for $10 and the other for $15. I didn't answer them for two reasons:

1. I've had difficulty getting the points for this type of survey to post (it promises posting in 5-7 business days, but that never happens) and

2. The points were set to expire in just a few weeks anyway, so it seemed like a complete waste of time to answer the surveys. And of course I could have redeemed the points on SOMETHING -- except that most of the redemption opportunities are just worthless for me. Only HHonors is really usable or worthwhile. (Maybe magmall would be too; haven't tried them yet.)

They really need to rethink this whole points expiration thing; having a policy that DISCOURAGES people from answering surveys because of the imminent expiration of the points that would be earned seems really counterproductive.
