Posting to wrong group?

Can someone please explain what the difference is between O.M.N.I. and S.P.A.M.

It seems to me most of what is posted here in spam should be in omni.

(probably including THIS thread!!).

I tried to use the argument a while back that I posted something in a place where it didn't really belong (I think it was a question about Holiday Inn or a specific town), but was told it should have been posted in one of the threads that NOBODY looks at...if I posted it in milesbuzz it would have had a MUCH better chance of being answered (or even seen).

Thanks for any thoughts.

Here are my rules of thumb:

1. If it's going to get you miles/points to your favorite program in alternative ways, S.P.A.M.

2. If it involves announcing or looking for a service/product for free or at an excellent price, S.P.A.M.

3. If it involves the discussion of anything else, not related to any of the topics of the other forums, then OMNI

But then again, what do I know http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

jfe, have you requested that Randy changes the description of S.P.A.M or did you decide this yourself?

There are countless "freebie" sites out there so it might be wise to make sure the REAL S.P.A.M. offers don't get lost between the free ice-cream and slurpie deals.

Actually, my fellow moderator jsm was kind enough to make that request and open that topic of discussion already in the TalkTeam forum.

It is not a decision, but a mere suggestion until Randy makes a decision whether we should change the description.

So we will have to wait until he makes that decision.

As I said, those are my rules of thumb.

Mmmm....ice cream.

So my question is - why do the wolves come out and hound doc when he posts, and not when other people post their free magazine subscriptions or other things?

I guess it's just another of those "pile on doc" fests that go on in other forums here. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Good question, can't answer it though

My guess would be it is b/c doc has like 35,000,000,000 posts under his belt and folks believe he is just inflating that number. Personally, I don't care one way or the other. Like I said, that is my guess...not a known fact. I say keep the free Maxims, Stuff and whatever else coming my way. I'll be laughing all the way to Cold Stone...mmmm, ice cream.

What does this have to do with doc? Must everything be about him? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif I thought this was about clarifying the difference between SPAM and OMNI.

Here's my rule of thumb: Take all of the mental energy that you expend when you worry about whether or not something is misposted, and apply it to solving world hunger or curing cancer.

What a wonderful suggestion! Why not expand it though? Let's take all of the physical energy that we expend each day posting on FT and apply it to solving world hunger or curing cancer.

How is it on Mars? Do let us know when you get back to planet Earth and if you earned miles on your trip... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
