Is there an airfare coupon in these books? Which airline or airlines? Are they useful?

Thanks

United Airlines is in the book. Also, there are several car rental agencies and I have had success year after year getting the best rates with Avis, Alamo, and National. You can go to the website for the entertainment to look at coupons for restaurants, stores, etc. for each city. I get at ealst two every year because of the savings!

I actually just ordered the book yesterday (DTW edition, $25 including shipping). As soon as the online order went through, it told me I could sign up immediately for access to coupons, including a united.com coupon.
Minutes later, I had an e-mail from UAL, giving me 2, 15% off electronic certificates. They have few blackout dates, and are good for some discounted online fares, but when I plugged the codes into some itineraries for a trip I'm taking to Vegas, the lowest fare the certs could pull up was in the mid-$400's, while the non-cert fares were in the $290's.

Here's the fine print (FYI, I think there are also several 15% off UAL certs in the book that you need to redeem offline):

OFFER DETAILS:
Discount Amount: 15%
Booking period: 8/1/02-12/31/03
Travel period: 8/1/02-12/31/03
Eligible Booking Class: Economy (H,Q,V,)
Maximum number of passengers per itinerary: 1

NOTE: Not all flights are eligible for an electronic certificate
discount. In some instances you may find flights that are not
electronic certificate eligible, because they have already been
discounted and are less expensive than the electronic certificate
eligible flights.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
We are not yet able to redeem paper certificates, coupons or vouchers
at united.com. Please contact customer support at 1-800-589-5582 with
any questions concerning paper or electronic certificates.

Electronic certificates cannot be redeemed by calling United Airlines or your

2. Important Notes: This discount may only be applied to the purchase of one new
ticket and may not be applied to previously ticketed reservations. Electronic

4. Allowable Fares: This discount may be used on the following fare types:
United economy (H, Q, or V). These qualifying fares are the lower, more
restrictive fares for travel in the economy cabin. Since these fares are booked
in a special class of service, they might not be available on all flights or on
all days of the week when you travel.

5. Restricted Fares: This discount may not be used on the following fare types:
United First® class, United Business class, or any other fares that are not
displayed as electronic certificate eligible on united.com

6. Fare Rules: The fare you qualify for depends on what class of service is
available on the days you travel. Some flights may have lower fares available
without the discount. Keep in mind, you must travel round-trip on United (one
way and multi-city are not allowed). The discount may not be used when you
travel one way. Other restrictions may apply.

7. Blackout Dates: This discount is not allowed for travel on the following

8. Mileage Plus Accrual: The passenger may accrue Mileage Plus miles, even with
this discount.

9. Upgrades: To determine if an upgrade certificate may be used together with
this discount, refer to the terms, conditions and booking class restrictions
associated with each upgrade.

10. Changes/Refunds: The rules of the United Economy fare you purchase
determine what changes or refunds are allowed. Any refund due is based on the
amount actually paid. The electronic certificate discount may not be reapplied
toward the purchase of another ticket when exchanging or refunding your original
ticket, except when the original ticket qualifies for a reduced fare (guaranteed
airfare rule applies). Check with United Airlines.

11. Valid Carrier: This discount may be applied to United Airlines and United
Express® operated flights, but not to flights operated by other airlines (such
as United- marketed code share and Star Alliance™ flights).
