You get points by spending (with your credit card)at the shopping vendors.

You could also, until a few weeks ago, get extra points, by viewing selected pages & clicking on Max. Now you just get entered into some completion where some one will get a million points (that's the theory anyway)

You can spend points at vendor's or transfer to some program like Hilton Honors.
