Need 11K AA Miles
Hi All,
I am 11K miles short of receiving 2 free tickets from AA. If any one can assist me with any ideas in obtaining these miles, please email me or post the suggestion below. I'm traveling May 22, 2002, so I would at least like to have the tickets in my hand beforeMay 1, 2002. I have transferred my Hilton points over today and hopefully, I will be able to transfer 2K points from My Points to Hilton by the end of this week or the beginning of next week. Also, the MCI 10K AA promo is still available as I just signed up for that 30 mins ago. Now, all I need is 6K miles. I already have a reservation. Thanks for all the responses. How long do you have to get the miles?
If you have a long time then you can sign up with Citi AA card, join MCI, and buy alot of Kelogg certs... |
I guess you know that you don't have to have the full miles in your account when you make the reservation? I believe they will give you 30 days from the time you make it to actually have the tickets issued, and one time when I was cutting it close waiting for some posts, I called and they extended it another 30 days. In the meantime, what about Gold Points? or Opinion Place at minimum 150 miles a pop, also not sure if this is over now or not, but Marriott was offering 1000 bonus miles per stay at a Renaissance Hotel if you were a miles earning rewards member.

I assume that you hit the 2,000 - mile e-mail enrollment bonus?
Goldpoints is a good bet. There are a lot small point offers at www.aolaadvantage.com . Vehicle quote is one that comes to mind (400 miles/month). Look through the AA forum, lots of good ideas there. |
Just got 150 miles on Opinion Place. Don't forget that you can get up to 500 miles every 2 weeks!

Why not just get an AA Visa card, get the 5,000 bonus sign-up miles and buy $6,000 in savings bonds?

You don't say whether or not you have a citibank CC or a starwood AMEX card. You can sign up for the dining programs and spend $600 at restaurants in the program. Living in NY, that shouldn't be too hard. You would get 6000 miles posted in time.
I think that this should be moved to the AA board - you would get more AA specific help. ------------------ DtG [This message has been edited by dgordon (edited 01-12-2002).] |

I second cactuspete's Goldpoints recommendation. Other threads explain how it works (need to sign up as a Radisson Gold Rewards member at www.radisson.com , then set up a Goldpoints account with the Gold Rewards number at www.goldpoints.com , be sure to use the Radisson program to redeem your points for miles, etc., etc., etc.).
Check out the shopping sites under goldpoints.com. And even if you don't plan to shop at any of the Goldpoints merchants, click from there to the Hallmark site, and from there to giftcert.com. Send yourself a "gift wish" certificate and then redeem it at any of 300+ merchants listed under giftcert.com (you can even divide it among merchants). For the Hallmark/gifcert purchase, you will earn 40 Goldpoints per dollar spent, which converts to 10 AAdvantage miles per dollar. By making purchases that you would normally make anyway, you can pile up a few thousand miles very quickly and easily. Even though the very rich "triple-points" promotions have ended, there are still plenty of decent mile-earning opportunities on Goldpoints. I know this info is "old hat" to a lot of people on FlyerTalk, but wasn't sure if the original poster knew about, so I rehashed it. Kathy |
AAdvantage dining web site:
aadvantagedining.idine.com BTW, you can choose to get miles on any of several other airlines if you don't need AA miles. To sign up, call 800-479-5981 during what they call "business hours". ------------------ On the road, In the air, I enjoy travel, From here to there. Just saw in the Target's circular today that Nutragrain bars are on sale for $2 per box. That's 2 cents per mile (plus postage) if the certs are on the box. My kids actually eat the darn things....

You can get 5000 or 7500 miles by applying for the Citibank AAdvantage Credit card:
http://www.citibank.com/us/cards/cardserv/worldcard Anjanettea, I'm concerned that you may not have availability if you wait too long. AA limits the number of seats per flight. If you want to travel exactly on a specific date, you do not want to wait until just before the 21-day advance window ends. Book ASAP, even if for only one of the two tickets. |

Now it's just the AA vacation contest on the boxes... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif So prob. not worth the trip to Target... |

Or buy Valuemags subscriptions (150 points/dollar = 37.5 miles/dollar) if you want magazines or can gift them. Kathy |
