Milesbar.com site down
Oh oh...
|
Is it over even before it really started http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif ?
|
Probably.
I tried, repeatedly, to get them to send me a copy of their "agreement" with an airline for the transfer of miles ... they never did! Could it be ... If it sounds too good to be true it probably is! |
Could be the long weekend -- nobody at home -- but I bet those "Platinum Members" who shelled out for membership must be feeling a little chagrinned
|
Kicking our butts Another internet scam or just a Hiccup?
|
Glad I didn't pay for this one...
Milesbar is located in Canada, so I don't think delay in fixing a www problem would be holiday-related. |
Good point... but in Canada every weekend is a holiday. Lets see what happens tommorrow.
|
Oh great!
Now the milesbar site is showing obscene language! |
|
I just tried to log on to www.milesbar.com but I was transfered to http://www.humankindsystems.com and that site is currently down. Whats going on?
|
MilesBar is up now, with no obscene text. They must have been hacked.

I'm still getting obscene text and no milesbar page.

Well, now I cannot even log-in. Plus weren't we supposed to be able to download the gold bar from May 28? Or receive some email on the 27th? Gimme a break... what a way to kick off.
|
Get our your virus scanners, people!
When I got that obscene message, I also gold told by my Virus software that the page was trying to download a WORM file onto my computer. Have a scan of your PC (I assume it's an anti-Windoze virus thingy), and wipe away the virus if you've got it! |
EVERYONE who viewed the obscene site should check their computers with a good virus detection program.
I got the worm too! It came from milesbar! |
Aren't MBGs supposed to already be allowed to download the gold bar???
|
Yes, maple, they were.
There is something VERY WRONG with this company. I've asked for them to send to me a copy of an agreement for the transfer of miles to an airline (something they state memebers can do) and they have yet to respond to my requests. Now, people are reporting that the site has loaded a virus onto their computers. My suggestion ... run Norton Anti Virus (with the latest definitions) now. |
Something is even more wrong with this site!!
I logged in using my regular URL and... Milesbar was GONE and all I got was some crappy "Welcome to milesbar.com WebMail!" thing that I couldn't even log into!! I changed the url from http://milesbar.com/ to http://www.milesbar.com/ and suddenly I'm getting the normal site again. What the heck are these people playing at?! Will the current program be replaced with some stupid e-mail thing, or something?? O_O |
To make it even MORE scary ... think about how many credit card numbers these folks have (people who paid for elite membership)!
Let's see . . . 1. They won't send me a copy of any agreement with any airline. 2. Their site is unstable. 3. There are numerous unfulfilled promises such as banners for members not available for download when promised. 4. Viruses being transmitted to members by the banners. Hmmmm... sounds like folks better not only run a virus check on their computer they better check their credit card statements! |
Thank goodness for not having a credit card, then! ^^;;;
|
Well, I got a very prompt reply to my email query. So let's see what they have up their sleeves, and how long they can put off (not put out) the fire.
Original query: Hi, I, and a great many others, have been patiently awaiting the arrival of the Gold Banner. It has been promised and even publicized on your website that Gold members would be able to download the Bar on May 28th. Unfortunately, not only were we unable to download the said software on the said date, no emails were even sent out to members on May 27th explaining the situation, or providing further clarification. It is troubling that a company such as yours take no concern at all in assuring its members that what has been promised will be dished out as promised. I would appreciate, if not for your own company reputation's sake, if you would promptly send all members a message describing in truthful detail the state of affairs. I am sure that we as your "valued members" will find it within ourselves to continue having faith and trust in this partnership. I appreciate that your website is well-designed with lots of persuasive and pro-active quotes. But perhaps one stands out best that would also serve as a reminder: "It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself." - Ralph Waldo Emerson Take it another way, let's just agree that if you don't wish to help us, you cannot help yourself either. Indeed, as A. Owen Penny said, and I quote directly from your website, "Mere words are cheap and plenty enough, but ideas that rouse and set multitudes thinking come as gold for the mines." Cheers and good luck on your future ventures. Response within an hour: Good Morning, Thank you for your email and thoughtful comments. We sincerely appreciate your writing us. You are absolutely correct in pointing out that we did not send emails to Gold members updating them on the bar status. Actually, the Elite Gold bar is ready for release. Unfortunately, the delay happened at the last moment when moving our site to new servers to allow for more bandwidth and better hosting infrastructure. We are sorry for the inconvenience we have caused you. Please accept our sincere apologies. The bar download information should be updated on our web site soon. Please expect the bar released to be in the next 4 to 5 days. Thank you again for taking the time to tell us your thoughts. We hope to regain your trust by offering better service in the near future. Kindest Regards, MilesBar Answer Team |
Good letter, Maple!
I've received similarly worded emails from milesbar when I've written to them asking questions. Unfortunately, milesbar appears to be very good at wording emails but not very good at actually following through on promises. Since you, apparently, have their attention, how about asking them for a copy of ANY agreement with ANY airline for the transfer of miles to frequent flier accounts or ticketing. I've been asking for such a copy for some time and milesbar has failed to provide me anything. I WAS an "elite" (ha ha) member ($12.95 a month). I cancelled the service two weeks ago. |
I know this is probably a stupid question
but has anyone actually checked with any of the airlines listed on the milesbar site to see if there is an arrangement for miles to be transferred from milesbar to a frequent flier account with the airline? |
