Milesource

Milesource just raised the requirements to get gift certificates. I guess people were getting too close to the really good stuff.

I have been a member of milesource.com for several months now. I am still waiting for the time when you can play games and earn miles. It has said coming soon on the page for several months and now I ask myself if it ever will happen.

My husband & I each joined Mypoints, Greenpoints and Milesource at the same time. We have received rewards from Mypoints & Greenpoints many times. Last week my husband got his first gift certificate from Milesource, and now you say it will cost us even more points. Joined Trocamania today, how long will it take to see a Marriott reward?

kempis:

I was wondering the same thing myself at the weekend so I checked on the games page. Sadly, it seems that all mention of earning miles for playing has gone!

I have now a bit over 6000 Award miles. I had plan on hanging around til I would get a 150$ of for airfare on 299$ and more but now its likely that I will get off when I have my 75$ off instead. Milesource.com is yet another one of these miles site on the net that cant live up to the hype and what they promised several months ago.

Same here, kempis. I have about the same amount as you and my girlfriend had about 3500 in hers. We were planning to save to get enough for a couple of domestic tickets for when we get married next year. In the end we realised that this was probably futile and gave up. She cashed hers in yesterday for a $25 Olive Garden gift voucher.

I'm still debating whether to do the same with mine or hang on just a little longer.

Today you can't even get in to cash out. I was encouraged when they took over the dime site, figured they were in good shape to do that. With the increase in points required the old timers really lost out. I really liked that site too.

Today I have been having problems with the Milesource website so I haven't been able to see how many points are required for prizes now but it makes sense to redeem your points for travel gift certificates from giftcertificates.com instead of accumulating points for a discount in travel. For that matter, one is better off getting a travel coupon from greenpoints.com for less work.

When I got into Milesource this morning I found the sites are taking much too long to load and it won't be worth the time involved now (unless this is just a problem with the new site that will be resolved). We decided to cash in a few weeks ago when Freeride & MyPoints cut back on point potential, and will continue to dump them every few months now. Getting AA gift certificates through GiftCertificates.Com (via Milesource) will still allow us "free" travel if we get a super saver fare and pay with the certificates. The AA certificates have no expiration and came very fast.

#@($*@# I've been screwed by freeairmiles.com, now milesource.com.

So far, mypoints.com has not let me down personally. I checked their financials to make sure they don't fold soon. Their cash flow is negative but still appears good for at least a year. Unlike many others, they are able to sell their infrastucture and service other businesses: Aria, NextCard, etc. Still, you never know these days.

In the meantime, I'm wondering if my freeride points will even net me cookies ... or will they fold?

We're all disappointed as these sites go down or reduce their awards. But it's a lot better than if you owned stock in these companies!!!!

MarkB Nov 7, 2000 1:51 pm

Someone earlier mentioned that the webpages seemed to take longer to load now. Up until Sunday it was possible to earn the full point allowance for ClickFix and the 25 bonus miles without actually visiting any of the sites being promoted.

As long as "Web site found.." appeared in the bottom left of your browser window (assuming you use IE) before clicking the next link, Milesource registered that you had visited the site. Therefore, it was possible to get your full ClickFix daily allowance in about 30 seconds! Sadly, but quite understandably, they seem to have closed this "loophole" now and you havet o wait for a little animation near the top of the page to tell you your visit has registered.

Tried to go to Milesource today - hopeless! TAkes forever to get there and to do anything once you're there. Forgot my password and spent huge amounts of time trying to get that worked out. Anybody having success with these people?

general45 Nov 8, 2000 8:38 pm

I was 40 points away from a $50.00 certificate when I checked in Monday only to find that they raised their point requirements from 4500 to 5500 points. I took the $25.00 gift supercertificate for 3500 points and will not be returning. The site has become slow and realy not worth the effort anymore. My wife will be redeeming her 3500 points tommorrow for the same reward, that is if they don't do another redemption revision between now and then.

JerryFF Nov 8, 2000 11:09 pm

I had enough points for a $50 Marriott certificate and ordered one. I have another from Freeride, so I was looking forward to $100 off somewhere. Then I got an email from Milesource telling me my certificate number and an 800- number to call for my reservations.

I emailed them back and asked them to send me the certificate so I could turn it in at the desk like last them. They said I had to book through their agency. When did this change? I can live with a higher point requirement, but I'm not going to book through their agency for $50. Why do these guys keep shooting themselves in the foot?

Bye,bye Milesource.
