Ryanair- baggage allowance
 

I am considering transfering up to SNN from MAD with Ryaniar to connect to a regular carrier for a Trans-Atlantic.

They have went back down to 15 kg allowance I see after being up to the normal 20kg for a while. They charge euro 4.50 per bag.

They state that every PAX is allowed 3 bags and if one paid for 3 that would be a total of 45 kg.

In the booking window they contradict this allowing each PAX to pay for up to 5 bags allowing a total of 75 kg total.

This is interesting for a PAX with status transfering to regular carrier as I understand I am then allowed up to 32 kg max for a bag.

Could a PAX with 2 32 kg bags at 64 kg total then pay for 5 bags and be ok with Ryanair?

Yes, they state that. Then they link to a page with fees on their website that seems to only show the per peice price. This would lead one to believe that they only charge out at 15 kg increments meaning that one kilo over would pay up to the next level.

This type of confusion is exactly how Ryanair makes their money. They change the rules constantly and then contradict themselves on their own website. If you want to speak to a human being you have to call a toll number and then wait forever paying every minute.

They open first next week at MAD and I do not expect their agents to be to well trained as well. That has always been my experience in Sweden.

I can't answer your question but I can offer a normal price phone number for Ryanair +353 1 249 7791. You should be able to call that for considerably less than €0.67/minute!

I interpret this to mean the 15 kg can be divided among the 5 bags, but the 5 bags together can't weigh more than 15 kg. They will have you put everything on the scale and then charge you for every kilo over 15 kg.

Ryanair baggage weight allowance is simple - 10kg carryon, 15kg checked in total.

Anything above that you pay £5.50 (€8) per kilogram

You also pay a fee per checked bag (£3.50 or £7) which is separate from the weight allowance.

Example if you have 10kg carryon & 15kg checked but your carryon is too big you'll pay £7 to check the bag plus £55 for the excess baggage as the fact that you are unable to use your carryon allowance is irrelevant

What are you trying to achieve? Get them to increase their baggage allowance? No chance.

Don't forget this is Europe. 15k is only 5k lower than the standard allowance on other European carriers.

Only Ryanair could think of charging someone for 5 bags that add up to 15kg total.

If the fee shown is per kilo then they will charge 40 euros to get the bag up to the normal 20kg or 160 euros for one 20 kg extra bag? I can get up to 5 extra bags on a trans-atlantic for $80 per bag.

I paid nowhere near that the one time they made me pay for 2kg prior but this is how they make their money. As they make traveling a hassle I have avoided them at all costs since.

Now that they were charging per bag I thought they were letting you pre-pay kilos as they have so many who check no bags on their flights.

They have a **next to the 8 euro fee on the website and then no clarification. They sell 5 bags at 4.50 each when you make reservation.

Also, you're almost right. 15kg is only 5kg less than the standard in Europe. However, I believe other airlines there only charge you on additional luggage. That's the point.

BTW, it is amazing that Ryanair doesn't offer internet support. Every airline is offering it. Guess it's because they want to charge you when you call them.

Ryanair does not want to carry checked baggage. It makes planes late and costs them a lot in airport handling fees.

If you have a lot of luggage to check, fly someone else - it will be cheaper overall.
