Ryanair from Stansted UK
I'm new to Flyertalk. The site was kindly recommended by one of your members when I requested a place where budget information could be exchanged when flying to the ever increasing destinations in Europe by Ryanair from Stansted. So you see, I am being very specific, I am not interested in comments about Ryanair, good or bad. When you get off the plane, the world is a blank canvas (apart from the ubiquitous Ryanair bus), so I want to know what you did at this point on your particular destination, and in return I will pass on my experiences.

I vowed to never use Ryan Air again...

Though I had absolutely no complaints on my experiences with Ryanair, I fear that they cancel one of my flights and leave me alone in the airport with nowhere to go. But i guess that would be too much of a bad luck ;) |

So your question is what do people do when they get off a Ryanair flight? I dunno what other people do, but I take that Ryanair bus to the city that I was planning on visiting... |
As you said, the world is a blank canvas every time you get off a Ryanair flight.
My experiences have ranged from stepping off at Charleroi (Belgium), bus to train, train to Spa Francochamps, walk to the F1 Circuit, greeted by a friend and waltzed off to lunch and champagne at the VIP enclosure – next day I watched the race from within one of the garages in the pit lane. To getting out at Forli (Italy) and going straight to The Link in Bologna and having one of the best nights out of my life. To getting out at San Javier (Spain) and going to a friend’s wedding in Murcia, or hanging out for the weekend at another friend’s house in Los Narejos – a 5 minute drive away. To getting out at Tampere (Finland) – getting the overnight train up to Kemijarvi – onwards by bus to Pyha and proposing to my husband there. I think I’m going to stop here. But I could go on, and on, and on…. I’m not sure why anybody’s experiences after getting out of a Ryanair flight would be any different to getting out of any other plane. |
My experience is to get into my mother's car for the five-minute drive to her house. As no one else serves her local airport I have no choice but to fly Ryanair when visiting her, but I avoid them if I have a choice. (It's a matter of principle for me - I don't like their ethics)

You have done best up to now though, but for instance I take note of what looks like an interesting itinerary to Pyha but where was the train station at Tampere, on the airport of did you travel into town to get to it? and the bus, where did it leave from and what did it cost? ...and so on. |

Train was paid for in the UK - one of the agencies listed by www.vr.fi on their website. Departed around midnight arrived at 7am or so. We slept in a two berth private cabin. At Kemijarvi it was difficult to locate the bus stop to Pyha. We had a map, but everything was covered in snow and we hadn’t brought a compass. Temperature was -30 degrees celcius. Once located, bus took 2 hours. Returned via bus to Rovaniemi and got a regular train (with seats – no bunks/cabin) to Tampere. Return train fare including the one night in cabin was approximately 140 Euros Total from Stansted: flights: £30 Buses: £20 Train: £90 Total: £140 Cost to Rovaniemi direct with cheapest other airline: well over £500 |

Suppose it was your wish to visit Carcassonne. Airport Shuttle to La Dome in town 5Euros with a short walk accross the old bridge to the ramparts. No 10 from La Dome takes you to La Casino (1.1 Euros) with a busy roadside walk of 1km to Formula 1 hotel (28 Euros pn). Taxi from airport 30 Euros. |

Bournemouth - taxi to our hotel directly from the airport £15 (the airport bus stopped at the main train station which was a taxi ride from our hotel, so it was easier) Dublin - hop on the 41a Dublin Bus service into the city leaving you on the Quays, (about €2) or pay €8 for the Aircoach shuttle dropping you directly to most major hotels as far as Bewleys Leopardstown. |
The only RyanAir flight I have been on was R/T from Stansted to Cork, Ireland.
After I landed in Cork, I exited past the 8 rows of empty blocked-off seats that occupied the front of my RyanAir flight. Then I rented a car and drove around picturesque southern Ireland, including Blarney Castle and Kinsale. Then I boarded another RyanAir flight back to Stansted that evening, having thoroughly enjoyed my day on all counts. |
