Hand luggage only rules

Does anyone know if a Berghaus 24/7 backpack is accepted as hand luggage only on Ryanair flights? TIA.

Welcome to FlyerTalk JojoB9, it’s good to see you here.

I am not familiar with your luggage, whether or not it complies with Ryanair’s baggage policy depends on the size of your item. Here is the link to the Ryanair baggage policy, have a look at this and come back to us if you have any further questions.

From what I can see on Google, there's different sizes available of the 24/7 rucksack. The 24/7 30 is too big to be a personal item on Ryanair*, but if you've paid extra to have a larger bag in the cabin then it's fine. The 24/7 20 is very slightly too big, but in all honestly will be absolutely fine, and as long as it isn't packed solid it'll probably fit into the sizer too.

*my experience is that any soft bag will be accepted as long as it isn't absolutely huge, but obviously you can't rely on this. The gate agents mainly look for people bringing hand luggage cases without paying for priority boarding.

Squish

I guess what I really want to know is : as long as it will squish into their box,is it ok. The laid flat measurements are too big, but it won't be filled to the max. I have used it before as hand luggage, but In 2018, and they keep changing the rules!!

You will be fine: most likely nobody at the gate will bat an eye lid when you scan your BP and board the flight. I have take fully stuffed bags of same size on many FR flights (tickets with no handlugage) without issues. Just stow it in the overhead bin once onboard; again, none of the FR flight attendants will bat an eye.

Just made myself a Ryanair bag sizer out of an old cardboard box 📦.
Rucksack fits fine 🙂 👌🏻
Thanks for all the helps

Are they strict with backpack sizes? I do have a laptop bag (with a 13" macbook inside). The "handle" at the top of the backpack is quite firm, so makes the whole thing look bigger. In reality these days do they make people squish it in? I've paid for a checked bag (and I'm checking one); I just assumed a backpack would be fine... It definitely fits under a seat... For reference, flying DUB-MXP and PFO-DUB, if departure airport makes that much of a difference? YMMV situation?

YMMV but generally they're quite tolerant of backpacks - it's the suitcases and duffels that get the most scrutiny. I would make this backpack the only bag (no hand bags, purses, totes, shopping bags etc.) to avoid scrutiny.

Good to know. My backpack isn't too big - but it's not the smallest either.. typical padded laptop backpack though.

Most likely (99%) there will be no issues. As stated above it is suitcases, trolleys, large duffle bags that are targeted.
