Ryanair - book with confidence. Or not.

Hello there,

Currently Ryanair offers free changes on bookings for July and August.
I booked my flight 3 days ago for 2nd of July.
When I try to change it to the 3rd of July it says the change fee is £45.

is this a scam?

They tell you what the change fee is, and they also tell you that you won't be charged it given that you have a booking made after 10 June for travel in July & August and are picking a new travel date prior to December 31.

They haven't charged you the fee, and you haven't paid a fee.

So, it is not a scam.

I had this today.

£180 in fees.

read the terms and conditions. You must change at least 7 days before departure.

bugger

Actually the original TCs on the mobile site did not say anything about the 7 day rule.

They changed it now so there is an additinal “click here” for further TCs but that wasn’t there before. Below you can see before and after.

What can I do? They really misled me.

Call them to make an exception and rebook manually without the fee. Additionally you could consider getting your credit card involved, escalating it to a chargeback if needed.

Ryanair Conditions of Carriage - Ticket validity

Hello, I have only traveled with Ryanair twice and never changed a ticket. Does anyone know the validity date for a ticket? I purchased a ticket on April 18, 2020 (for travel December 22, 2020), so I need to pay a change fee and rebook 2.5 hours before departure on December 22, 2022. Do I need to complete travel by April 18, 2021, 12 months after date of purchase like some US airlines? Or can I travel on any date that is available with tickets available for sale?

I am not asking about any special COVID-19 vouchers because I do not think my reservation qualifies. It seems COVID-19 vouches are valid for 12 months from the date the flight is cancelled and the voucher is issued.

I did a test change and see I can rebook for any date in the future with tickets available for sale.

Notwithstanding that there clearly is something wrong with the final date in your text, your reference to rebooking "2.5 hours before departure" is extremely inadvisable. If I were you, I would ensure that I rebooked online at the earliest possible opportunity.

Note that Ryanair tickets retain no value if not used or changed in advance of departure - hence leaving this change to the last minute is inadvisable.

Thank you! I will do it in advance

Is anyone actually able to change their flights? The Continue button remains grey for me after I select the new flight...

Thank you for your advice. I am traveling 22-29 December 2020 and wish to change to 22-29 December 2021. The website says schedules are released 5-6 months in advance but for my travel from BGY to FUE, I see already see flights 13 months out through the end of October 2021. I know this will depend on the route but does anyone know if I will be able to see the entire December 2021 calendar at the beginning of December 2020? It is October 1 so I see schedules through end October 2021, so the same will be true December 1 for schedules through December 2021.

Separately, I have a question about the change fees ($324 total for two tickets) and my options to avoid these. I booked in April so will my change fees be waived per this disclosure below? Assuming they extend this to December travel dates and I rebook for travel before 21 March 2021.

Ryanair website: Any flight booked as of 10 June 2020 for a Ryanair Group flight departing in July, August, September, October and November 2020 may be changed to another Ryanair Group flight departing before 21 March 2021 without any flight change fees.

And if I really want to book for December 2021 and the calendar for December 2021 is not available by 22 December 2020, can I change twice? One change with no fee for early March flights that have a similar fare. And a second change with a fee to get my December 2021 dates. I know they do not refund the difference if I rebook at a lower fare but will they keep the original fare stored if I rebook a second time? For example, the fare goes down with the first change and then up with the second change)? I doubt this.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I had the same last week. This is from the app right?

I had to do it on the website where it worked fine/I was able to click "continue".

But why do you book this far out? Most likely the prices will drop much closer to departure. Most tickets with European LLC's har bought a few weeks out where the fare are at the lowest. When you buy this far out you are sure to pay a much higher fare.

As for your question, my experience from changing FR tickets is that you keep the original amount paid - it not about fare classes as such, but the amount paid will be applied towards the new ticket (save for any change fee etc already paid)

Anyway, this is RyanAir so I can almost guarantee you that you will have to pay any applicable fare difference and that a second voluntary change will not be without change fee. It will most likely be cheaper just to buy new tickets, but you really need to be more careful about the timing.
