As I understand it Ryanair don't exmploy anyone -- flight crew, cabin crew, ground staff, all outsourced. This allows ryanair apologists to say "What are ryanair supposed to do, it's not their fault"

irrops happen. Ryanair has little infrastructure to deal with them but it seems the captain did all he could in this case. I have flown them many times and prefer them to a lot of mainline European carriers.

And ryanair's lack of infrastructure is ryanair's fault.

Yes, irrops happened. The wife was on a £15 ticket BCN-LHR-MAN a few months ago on BA. The BCN flight was delayed, so on arrival at LHR she headed to the £200+ a night sofitel and got a good nights sleep, before getting a flight up to MAN in the morning.

Ryanair has a weather related delay and you spend the night on the plane, where passengers are left in such distraught state that they phone the police (according to the video).

Ryanair should never have boarded a plane that didn't have any fuel. They should have put people in hotels and rescheduled the flight for the next morning. They didn't, they saved £15000, and the ryanair fan club will continue to fly with ryanair.

(And yes, I do hate Ryanair; and no I would never use them unless they were the only option!)

It should. I've asked the moderators to move it.

All I know is I'd rather fly Ryanair with it's 90% on time rate and EU261 legislation protection vs. El Al to Europe (I'm based in TLV) with it's 64% on time rate and no such protection, but sadly, they don't yet fly to TLV.

It seem their policy is not that bad.
Or rather is what has been published here a fake?

Ryanair Sorry After 'Mutiny' On Delayed Flight

The airline has issued an apology to passengers who were left stuck on board a Ryanair plane for hours without food, water, and/or AC, but at the same time the airline denies that the passengers were held on the flight against their wills, that no refreshments were served, and that the AC was turned off.

The plane was delayed for a total of 11 hours which the airline blamed on poor weather.

http://news.sky.com/story/1215664/ry...delayed-flight

That doesn't sound like much of an apology...

Probably real but I'm sure getting the compensation would be like pulling teeth. There's a similar law in Turkey but when I had a problem on TK, I submitted a claim to the airline and they dismissed it. At that point my only recourse was to sue in Turkey. At least in the EU there are businesses that have sprung up like refund.me that will try to handle it for you cheaply.

First, it was not their own gate.

Second, airside at STN closes for a few hours each night. I assume that during this time neither airline staff nor their handling agents can get into this part of the terminal. This seems to have been part of the problem.

The main issue, tho', appears to be the refuelling. Does anyone know/have any idea why this did not take place?

Another excellent FR flight this weekend.
Mrs Showbizguru and I crossed the Irish Sea on a full plane for less than €40.
Didn't buy any food or drink on board and arrived 10 minutes early which, according to a PA announcement, helps makes FR Europe's most on-time airline.
Friendly crew and the new policy of a second piece of hand baggage allowed on board seems to have gone down well.
Meanwhile unions at Aer Lingus have revealed plans for more crippling strikes in what are now virtually annual threats of disruption.
The same journey with them at a slightly earlier time would have cost us
€160.

But easyjet do.

Despite the negative prejudice against Ryanair, I find little or no difference between them and easyjet.

Didn't buy any food or drink on board
The appearance of Boots and their "meal deals" airside at most UK airports means even the skinniest and flintiest don't need to go hungry on a LCC. However, if I'm hungry enough, I don't really grudge paying extra for a sandwich onboard when I saved about 20x that on the fare.

paulwuk Feb 23, 2014 6:41 am

Interesting comparison. I'm currently trapped on a Ba plane (1310 departure), but due to the usual overcrowding at heathrow, a bit of wind means we have an hour's delay "scheduled"

Air con is on, and they've already delivered the drinks, and cleared the rubbish. We're only 30 mins into the delay now too.

Mildly annoyed that we weren't left in the lounge for a bit longer, but the captain is trying to get an earlier take off slot, and I know how important timing is with heathrow.

However a "Muslim looking" chap is talking in a foreign accent in the row I front - should I call the police? Inform the captain? Just quietly have a panic attack?
