With only 3 people in the Priority Boarding category, I think that wasn't necessary. Buying a reserved seat gets you Priority Boarding, correct?

6€ a packet yes, in this article from 2009, the price was £5,40 for 10, and here 6€ for 10 (disposable if I am correct)

And even though the tickets that have selected seats include priority boarding, the staff onboard the flights do not let people in the so called "reserved" seats before the plane is almost full, if at all (from the last few flights that I have taken). If you get on at the start of the boarding process, they will tell you to sit elsewhere (and a member of staff will be there to tell you this).

as with all things Ryanair - read the small print!
It's been a while, but the last time I checked the writing there was only some undisclosed amount that actually goes to charity.

I remember reading it was 1%.

as much as that?

As my colleague found out at Malaga recently, Ryanair "priority boarding" just means first on the bus, not necessarily first on the plane!

Indeed, it has been reported in one or two other threads in this very forum.

While I've never found Ryanair a particularly pleasant experience - more queuing and more loud sales pitches to listen to than anywhere else -- I've never actually had any real problem with them. I don't think I've ever paid a cent in extra fees (aside from the fee for using a credit card).

One thing, if you're traveling as a group the lack of assigned seating really is annoying. Agree in advance on who wants aisle seats and who wants window seats and so on or else you'll find yourself arguing in the plane over where to sit. Or just decide in advance that you don't care about sitting together and all go and find your own seats.

Top tip: In a large group, just wear your matching hen/stag party T-shirts and everyone will give you a wide berth anyway.

Although presumably you'll be seeing enough of each other landside to endure a couple hours separation in the air.

I am a bit confused (considering first trip in Ryanair). I read comments here that if you board early you may not sit in the "reserved" or "priority" seats. Does that apply if I have pre-reserved and paid for one of these seats? I was going to pay to sit in row 1. Please excuse me if this has been asked before. But it does seem crazy that they would sell you a specific seat and then refuse to let you sit in it.

Those comments refer to the situation before Ryanair introduced allocated seating for all (i.e. before February 2014) - back then you could pay extra to sit in a small selection of 'premium' seating, otherwise there was no seat allocation (so if you paid to get on early, but didn't pay to sit in the 'premium' seats, you couldn't sit in the 'premium' seats but had first choice of all the other seats).

Now that Ryanair has allocated seating for all passengers the above scenario is out of date - if you've paid for a specific seat, then that's where you'll sit, full stop.

Last year I really enjoyed sitting in the exit row for no additional charge. It's only fair that the airline figured out how to prevent such freeloading.
