Ryanair - new credit card charge?
 

I booked a single fare from Munich West-Stansted using my UK sterling prepaid Mastercard to avoid the rip-off charges from our favourite Irish airline.

When the booking process was completed, Ryanair had converted the €uro fare to sterling before charging my card. The forex rate they used was 5% more expensive than the rate I could buy on the same day. In this case I paid approx a £5 sterling supplement.:mad:

Anybody else experienced this?

Not new, but only comes into play when booking trips like that (from one country, paying with a card from another) - unsurprisingly there is a very small link, which opens up a box to untick on the payment page, to avoid this Ryanair "conversion".

It happen to me also, I normally look very carefully at the Ryanair website and avoid all the charges with my prepaid credit card.

At the very end, when you put in your credit card number it determines which currency the credit card is in, and in very small blue text it shows the forex rate which is going to be charged, and you have to click at the link to cancel this and let your credit card company do it yourself.

For me it was not about the cost, it was a 5 pound ticket, so probably only cost me 20 eurocents or so, the bad thing about this that you actively have to click the proposed conversion away, and the black text shown the amount to pay does not change.
It should be the other way around, Ryanair is free to make money on this one as well, but should be optional to the customer and the customer should actively click to allow this.
(There are some cases, especially with US credit cards where their company charge an extra fee for paying into another amount then US Dollars, where this is actually helpfull and saving the customer money).

Well, but RyanAir in general is not known for the friendly (if any) customer support and helpful behaviour towards their 'customers'.

So, if you know that they will treat you like crap, but the rate is good, go for it and play by their rules.

But it is Ryanair you are talking about - the airline that by default included insurance and stuck the 'no insurance' option in the most logical of places that is between Latvia and Lithuania (or similar) on the drop down list.

Where do you see that box to uncheck? I can't find it
