Ryanair - poster tube?

A bit of a long shot, but does anyone know if Ryanair will let you take a poster tube on as hand luggage? I can manage without any other carry on if I have to, but obviously the tube will be longer than the usual carry on dimensions. Every other airline I've flown with have let me take a poster tube in addition to hand luggage, but I assume that won't be the case with Ryanair.

Indeed, the poster tube will be the only thing allowed on.

If it's allowed on. Technically, it shouldn't be by their rules. It might get through, due to it's miniscule other dimensions if it's not outrageously long, but be prepared to face that fact that if they get technical about it, it is actually breaking one of their dimension rules.

Hmm, this is what I am worrying about.

What if it's not in a tube? Just a poster rolled up? Would that make a difference?

These are the sorts of things that make Ryanair my very last choice :-\

The only requirement is that the "bag" fits into the measuring frame, therefore will the poster fit into the frame at an angle?

At a rough guess you can get something nearly 75cm long into the frame if you do it from one corner to the opposite corner

A newspaper in your hand is considered an extra piece of hand luggage (you need to put it into your bag when boarding), so a poster would certainly be considered one.

A newspaper?!

I'm waiting for the poster to come back from the printers so I can measure it up properly. Thanks for all the info.

It has been posted in this very forum that pax have been told to consolidate a newspaper into one carryon, get rid of it, or pay extra

Unfortunatelly B747-437B wasn't kidding :(

Unless you are prepared to check it if need be, I would not risk it. Some FR agents might show commonsense but others will just stick to the rules literally like gospel.

I think it depends on who you get on the day to be honest. In my one and hopefully last experience with ryan-air i saw several people in the boarding que get their items tested and rejcted but also saw many who shouldn'tve gotten through get onboard. This was in Madrid airport and there was really no consistency.

How large it is might determine if you get it on or not, if it's only a few cm longer i doubt it should be a problem, but you never know!

Ryanair is very strictly one piece of hand luggage - this includes airport purchases and the likes. So I would be surprised if you got away with it as a second item, though you might as an only item. That said, they are usually very strict on size (55x40x20) and so it may well get rejected on that basis. And checking a bag in on the day is *expensive*.

I'd post it instead, if feasible.

Everything from a newspaper to a child's stuffed toy counts as an extra piece of hand luggage. I've seen kids wailing at boarding gates when they are told that they either need to stuff their teddy bear into the bag (and pray the bag doesn't weigh more than 10kg now) or they won't be allowed to go on holiday. It's quite a sight.

Or their new Ryanair branded cabin luggage doesn't bulge too much and becomes an expensive gate checked bag

If it does not fit in the carry on bag checker they wont let you take it on board and charge you to check it in

Ryanair has such a bad rep for their strict hand luggage policy but I've never had a problem.
Last summer I did a multi-city mini beach tour and carried a huge rolled straw beach mat in addition to my regular carry on and no-one uttered a peep.

Hi, I will be facing the same issue in a few days, so it'll be really helpful if you could tell me how did it go in your case. Thanks a lot
