Maps

Can anyone recommend some decent maps suitable for walking/public transit around Moscow & St. Petersburg? I always get the very nice plastic fold out Streetwise brand ones but they don't have either of these cities.

I was going to order the Eyewitness Guides for Moscow & St Petersburg and I have the combined Frommers one.

I do not have a separate map, but I have the Lonely Planet Moscow City Guide (2006) that has good detailed city maps (and a "walking tours" chapter). The metro stations are on the detailed maps, plus there is a map of the Metro system with names in Russian Cyrillic alphabet and Roman letters. Am not going to St. Petersburg, though, so have not looked into that.

I love the Streetwise maps too and was disappointed to learn they didn't have any for Russian cities. In it's place, I sometimes used the Knopf mapguides, which breaks the city down into districts, each with a separate map and information pertaining to the specific area. They are very detailed, but kind of confusing if you want to look at the whole picture. The street names are in both Cyrillic and Roman, which helped me tremendously.

Otherwise, I used the the free maps provided by the hostels and visitor center, or I referred to the guidebook for certain things listed that were out of the city center.
