Sochi during Jan holidays ?

Hi Folks..

So am looking for holiday options for the Jan week long holiday and seems am already quite late with bookings (looking at the air fares )..

Seeking suggestions and recos for Southern Russia.. Sochi / Rostov etc etc.. and yes would prefer train options.. don't wanna spend loads only on peak time air tickets..

Appreciate any guidance..

Cheers
A

Are you interested in the mountain (skiing, etc.) or the coastal area of Sochi? Not sure if the ski resorts are good, but these is almost nothing to do on the coast in winter.

Not much into skiing .. bob sledging maybe 1/2 a day in total..

basically looking for options to go out and see new places in that long holiday.. airfares seem quite expensive to Western and Southern Europe, so looking for alternatives..

Did you consider visiting Lake Baikal?

Check out this fun and activity packed tour http://baikalov.ru/tours/group/new_year/#5

It's a great experience! I wouldn't be sure about Sochi in winter ... real winter might be preferable

So you can easily skip Sochi, nothing to see there except empty stadiums. Not much to see in Rostov-on-Don either. Maybe go a bit further south to Armenia or Georgia? The Russian part of the Caucasus also has interesting sights, but most of it is far from being safe enough to be recommended.
