Well, my situation is that I just applied for a загранпаспорт but will not be able to obtain an internal passport until I head back that direction again. I would rather the MVD cancel the internal passports & the entire nation goes to driver's license type IDs instead & that it wouldn't be required of me.
Sigh. I'm just a lazy guy who wants to visit his family, haha. |

My guess is that most of your troubles will be over if / when you get your загранпаспорт here in the States. When I got to Russia after a very long absence, I got my internal passport in a week (without offering money to anyone). MVD even waived all the fines (for failing to apply for the internal passport sooner) because they realize that thousands of people like us live abroad. They even have a special internal passport application for people who came to Russia after a long time. All I had to show them is that my загранпаспорт was issued in the U.S. and the border crossing stamp indicating when I crossed the border. Apart from it, they looked at my birth certificate and took my old (Soviet) internal passport. Good luck.
This took just a week? Is there a way to get the special internal passport application online? Or do you have to pick it up in person? At least I know that I will have to bring my birth certificate along, though. Thanks for that bit of info. |
There is no online application. Once you get to a local MVD branch, you will be told what to do. It will likely be the following items: 1) application (see № 1П below); 2) fee (to be paid through a local bank); 3) birth certificate; 4) "foreign" passport; 5) previous "internal" passport (if any); 6) copies of some of these documents. The officer will tell you how to put the items together, particularly what items you have to xerox for them.
And here is a link to an FMS (federal migration service) site regarding cases like yours: http://www.fms.gov.ru/documents/passportrf/ The FMS is actually what deals with passports. The № 1П mentioned on the site is this thing: http://www.fms.gov.ru/documents/pass...les/form1p.pdf The references to военный билет are not relevant (I think), because in order to get a военный билет you need to have an internal passport. So they cannot ask you for a военный билет before you apply for a internal passport. |
