I took a business colleague of mine on an SU flight ( we travelled Business Class). He had has just arrived on a Rossiya flight a few days prior also in business class, and he was astounded at the difference between SU and Rossiya. The Rossiya flight attendant barely spoke English, not sure how she could work an EU flight.
In economy the quality is mostly the same between SU and Rossiya, but in business SU is a much, much higher category. |

The quality is EXACTLY the same. GH tends to operate the longer flights (DME-YKS, OVB-HKG e.t.c.) because of the range capabilities of the 738s. That said, with the introduction of 320 and 321 NEO into the fleet, we can now see S7 operating even longer routes, (the longest one at the moment is DME-TFS (7 hours). SU is running a total zoo with their subsidiaries. The service standards of FV or HZ are nowhere near those of SU. Am I right in thinking that the seat pitch on GH is extremely tight, much more so than on mainline S7? Just going by my experience on my recent DME-DUS flight. Crews are pretty good, though. |

What the heck is HZ? Seriously, you've got me there. I vaguely suspect that FV is Rossiya. Is it really that bad, because I was thinking of making an award ticket on FV?

I can't really comment because I have always managed to sit in the emergency exit row.... e |
On Globus, which was flight S7 991 (GH) I just took what was given because by the time I got round to thinking about it, there was nothing left. When I first looked, they wanted RUB400 for seat selection, RUB1,900 for extra legroom seat, and RUB8,000 for Business. Probably should have taken the latter at the price, but somehow I just don't find it worthwhile on European flights. Plus, you get good service in Economy on S7/GH. I was on a Basic fare and checked in about 26 hours before departure. It occurred to me that seat selection might have been free if I had checked in within 24 hours of departure.

Actually, you would have a higher chance of securing a better seat if you were to check in later because the system starts assigning seats from the back to the front. This matters on the 319s because there is more legroom in the first few rows then further in the back (can't remember if its the same for the rest of the fleet). Statistically, you are also more likely to have an empty seat next to you if you end up in the front. |
This flight was just jammed, though, not a single seat free. So I reckon my chances of a better seat on a Basic fare were limited at best. Not complaining, though, it was totally bearable. And traveling next to normal Russian people, even tough guys with tattoos and so on, was a civilized and quite pleasant experience. Might not have been the case in the US or the UK. Shame (but maybe just as well?) they don't serve alcohol in Economy on S7.
