Edit:
Sadly, the toddler's fate will offer some insight into the final moments of the ac. It suggests that the damage from the explosion, while ultimately catastrophic, didn't happen instantaneously and she was sucked out of the cabin as the plane continued its forward progress before beginning to disintegrate.

It is unfortunate for those seeking the truth in this tragedy that the Egyptian authorities control the black box data.

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt said on Monday it had found no evidence so far of terrorism or other illegal action linked to the crash of a Russian passenger plane in Sinai that killed all 224 people on board on Oct. 31.

Russia and Western governments have said the Airbus A321 operated by Metrojet was likely brought down by a bomb, and the Islamic State militant group said it had smuggled an explosive on board.

But Egypt's civil aviation ministry said it had completed a preliminary report on the crash and said it had so far found no evidence of a criminal act.

"The technical investigative committee has so far not found anything indicating any illegal intervention or terrorist action," the ministry said in a statement.

The crash hit Egypt's tourism industry, a cornerstone of the economy. The plane took off from Sharm al-Sheikh, a Red Sea resort popular with Russian and British holiday makers.

It raised serious questions about airport security with Russia and Britain both suspending flights into Sharm al-Sheikh.

Egypt is facing a two-year Islamist insurgency in the Sinai that killed hundreds of soldiers and police. Islamic State said the bombing was in response to Russian air strikes in Syria.

Doesn't Egypt still claim that EgyptAir990 crash in 1999 was NOT a deliberate crash by the co-pilot? I wouldn't give 1 Cent on their analysis..

Given there is a rather widely held belief that explosives brought down this plane, where are the traces of the explosives -- on the recovered bodies and/or the on the recovered plane pieces? What kind of explosives, if any, were detected when swabbing the bodies and plane pieces for explosives?

The bodies/body parts get repatriated (mostly to Russia) -- and I had assumed that was already largely done. And the plane parts, when do they get repatriated?

That is an interesting question. Rather obvious the Egyptians have little interest in those parts leaving their control.

Reuters is reporting this morning from "unidentified sources" that an EgyptAir mechanic, two policemen, and a baggage handler have been detained for further questioning. In keeping with their desire to avoid any discussion of a terrorist act, airline and security officials are denying it.
