How do I get compensation from damaged baggage?

My bag was damaged (the top was totally crushed/cracked) so I cannot use it again on a recent Aeroflot flight from BKK-BUD

I have a damage report from Menzies Aviation at my arrival airport.

I emailed Aeroflot to ask how to make a claim and they said:

You can send the complaint to the Aeroflot by post: 141425, Moscow area, Khimki region, OPS airport Sheremetyevo-2, box 176 or to the nearest Aeroflot’s representation (see in site: http://www.aeroflot.ru/cms/en/offices).
The following documents must be attached to the complaint:
- written claim with sum of compensation
- original of damage report
- original baggage tag
- copy of ticket
- the document confirming cost of damaged baggage.

There is an office here in Budapest so I think I should make the claim there. However, I'm not sure about the 5 documents which they ask for.

1) written claim with sum of compensation
I assume this is just a letter stating my intent to claim compensation from them with the amount

2) - original of damage report
I have a copy that was emailed to me by Menzies. I assume I'll need to go figure out how to get the real one?

3) original baggage tag
I have this

4) - copy of ticket
I have this

5) - the document confirming cost of damaged baggage.
I have no idea what this document is. Do they mean a receipt for the baggage that I bought?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Aeroflot competition scam

Reading these and comparing this to my own experience with Aeroflot I came to the conclusion that Aeroflot has worked out a sceme to avoid payment of compensation.
I took a flight from Tokyo to Munich. My luggage was damaged heavily. I filed the complaint with the handling agent in Munich with immediately. I got a form to file for competition online after my return. I stayed in Europe for about 40 days, returned to Tokyo and did as told only to be informed that online filing for Aeroflot is not possible. I called Aeroflot in Japan to learn that I had to do a complete claim through there website. And send all kinds of documents as dance. I did so an then waited for more that a month, only to be informed about that they refuse my claim, because I should have done so within 7 day of my return. I therefore have to warn all passengers of Aeroflot, that they need to be careful as the company is trying to make it a difficult as possible to make a claim in order to avoid the payments they are obliged to make.

Since this is a flight that ended in the EU, EU rules apply. If this was a flight that started or ended in the US, then US rules apply. Check your local regulator.

As a rule, the claims should be done as quickly as possible, and I would CC your local regulator if possible. There are much more protections if the flight ends or starts in the US/EU, I am not sure how this works for domestic Russia flights. Thankfully my bag has never been damaged before on domestic Russia / Eurasian segments.

That should be easy in the EU
Go to a lawyer and take her to court in Budapest, of course

How did this play out, especially for Michael Schneider? I am in a similar situation for a flight from PRG to SGN.

Had filed a damaged baggage claim with SU‘s Khimki address, registered mail, in August 2019. Two months later, zero reaction from SU.

Your best bet, as I have mentioned is to go though US or EU regulators, if you are domiciled in the US/EU or in my case in Switzerland.
Good luck trying to get anything out of SU ex Russia.

Personally had a few Rimowa's damaged, the matter was settled easily.

The lady at the baggage office at LED ( downstairs at arrivals though a maze or corridors) took sympathy then rolled her eyes, when I showed her the price of my bags on the Rimowa website. I did get the repairs paid for and i didn't pay for it…..
