It's interesting that they mentioned "beginning August 26...". It has been assumed that the MR/RC/SPG program transition would take place on August 1, but recently there's been some discussion about when it'll actually happen. I'm thinking of getting the card as it appears that Ritz/Marriott gold will move to Platinum in August and I happen to be staying in a couple SPG properties during the 2nd half of August. But, if the timing is actually late August, I'd miss out on Platinum benefits for at least 4 of the 8 nights I'm staying there. This has me thinking that it may be best to hold off and risk loosing the the current card bonus.

In addition to new earning categories, Ritz card will gain a 50,000 point annual free night certificate, drop the 10k/yr spend requirement for gold status. Sounds like other benefits remain intact.

Nice - no mention about the annual 15 night credit though from TPG. Would be disappointed if the card didn't have this benefit.

Clearly not everything as each card still have its unique features. Though considering the card gives a Gold status it seems that the nights are superfluous, as under the old program they were meant to bring one into Silver status.

But the new gold status will be more like the current SPG gold status. The future platinum status will be more like the current Marriott Rewards gold status. The 15 night credit would reduce the number of nights you will need to stay from 50 to 35 in order to obtain the future platinum status.
