Can I cross a border with Uber / Lyft?

I am planning a trip to Detroit and will need to visit a location in Windsor, Ontario.

Can I take an Uber / Lyft from Detroit to Canada and vice versa? Anything I need to be concerned about with this?

When I was in Detroit last year I asked Lyft and they said no.

You definitely can't get a pickup on Lyft from Windsor.

I'm not sure about Uber.

Uber: yes to Detroit -> Windsor, no to Windsor -> Detroit, yes to Detroit -> Windsor -> Detroit in one uninterrupted trip (i.e., the driver agrees to leave the meter on while you run your errands).

You might have trouble finding a driver who has a passport with them at the time of the ride request if these border crossings are not a regular occurrence with these rideshare services.

As soon as you get a driver, ask if they have their passport. If they don't, cancel. You can offer to get picked up and let them go home on the meter to get their passport.
Tip them well if the wait to cross is long

Uber drivers are not, even if they have passports, at least on the southern border. I don't think there's a pedestrian crossing there, but you can take a bus across that is part of Windsor's public transit system or something similar.

i did a uber from DTW to windsor, I asked if he had a passport, but he said he didnt need one. Apparently michigan licenses are enhanced drivers licenses and can cross the boarder alone.

In San Diego you can take a special Uber that will take you across the USA-Mexico border:

Last year I crossed Swiss/French border and return without any problem. But there's no Uber on the French side, so driver waited for me.
