China uber
Anyone else experiencing problems trying to use uber in China? I was just in Shenzhen and when I tried to use uber, the app asked me to confirm my number (The same number from my local country) but it would not send me a sms. I've heard you need a local SIM card, but is there anyway to get around this?

nope - your uber # is your US number. I used it without issues in beijing because i was able to identify the locale via gps and was able to spot the driver, etc.
the cabbies might try and call, but it was overall a failure. |

Calling them is also an option. SMS is not widely used in China anymore, in spite of the fact that Uber lists it as a contact option. Relying on pin locations can be a futile exercise in crowded areas. |
