No Amex at newest RN restaurants

I noticed that most of the newest RN member restaurants in my area are excluding Amex from RN eligibility. I have two Amex cards, a Wells Fargo Propel Amex and a Delta SkyMiles Gold Amex, both linked to MileagePlus Dining. I have another card linked to MileagePlus Dining, my WF Visa Signature. My fourth card, my AAdvantage Aviator Red MasterCard, is linked to SkyMiles Dining, but I rarely use this card for restaurant purchases (I mostly use this card for online purchases). I could change this card to MileagePlus Dining, where MileagePlus will be my main program for Rewards Network, while WF Rewards, SkyMiles, and AAdvantage will be my main programs for normal purchases.

Usually my WF Propel Amex is my favorite for restaurants and gas, SkyMiles Gold Amex for groceries, AAdvantage Aviator Red for online purchases, and WF Visa Signature for Costco and everything else.

Has anyone else noticed in their area that most of the newest RN members are excluding Amex?

I can't comment on your specific inquiry, but I note that if you were to replace your Barclays Aviator Red card with a Citi AAdvantage card, you would earn two AAdvantage miles per dollar on restaurant spend, versus the one mile per dollar that Barclays offers.

I noticed in the past that the newest RN restaurants often didn't get Amex from the beginning, but usually got them after a few weeks.

Perhaps the RN setup process for handling Amex is different and takes longer than the RN setup process for other card types?

So you may want to keep checking these new restaurants weekly (or however often you wish) to see if it changes soon. Just don't assume that if they don't have Amex at the beginning they never will (they may or they may not).

In my area, the majority of the restaurants that didn't give RN miles for Amex when they first joined did start giving them soon after that, and only one restaurant (one which doesn't take Amex at all) has never given RN miles for Amex. (In fact, that restaurant which doesn't take Amex at all has a big sign saying "MC/Visa only" under the register.)

Most restaurants that accept Amex end up giving RN miles for Amex in the long run (in my experience), and it's mostly restaurants that don't accept Amex at all that never end up giving miles for Amex. (So another thing you may want to do is figure out whether those restaurants accept Amex or not at their registers.)
