Alamo: Fastest way to get your rental car?
 

I will be renting from Alamo shortly. Trying to hit the road asap, I came across that "Skip-the-Counter" program Alamo offers.
How reliable and speed is that process?

I would do the checkin and skip the counter stuff on a computer in advance and print it out. If you do that, it's probably fairly painless - head to the garage, they'll point you to a car or let you pick from a selection, and head out.

I tried it entirely on my phone last time I rented from Alamo, and while successful, (a) it was challenging to fill out all the forms on a phone screen and (b) I think you're really supposed to have a hard paper copy of the confirmation, they made it work but were very confused and it was a hassle.

So, you provide DL numbers, credit card info online then?
Btw, there is also a "Alamo Insiders" - program on the webbsite offered - is this somehow related to "Skip-the-Counter" ?

Fill it out before hand on a full size computer. Then open up your account on the alamo app and all you need to show is the bar code in the app. Used it last October on Maui. Work's great. Alamo Insiders just makes it that much easier.

I had a problem using the app on my phone recently. Luckily, I had printed out the paperwork the night before. Go to the aisle with your car "size" and get in and go (remember to do a walk around of the car first). You give your paperwork (or phone) to the exit booth.

If you are in Orlando they have people waiting to help you at the front of the garage. Ask "any chance of a free upgrade today?" and about 50% if the time you will get one.
